Blink-182 – What's My Age Again? Lyrics 2 months ago
I actually feel that the song has a deeper meaning than what is apparent on the surface. To me, it is a protest of how our society harshly treats those with mental disorders and/or don't conform to all social norms. This can be heard in the line "What the hell is ADD?" Protest has always been at the forefront of rock music, so it makes perfect sense.

Twisted Sister – We're Not Gonna Take It Lyrics 5 months ago
This song is a protest against intervention by people in a position of authority, whether that is the government (Taxes, invasive laws, ETC), school, parents, ETC. The narrator is simply saying that what is being done to them is not acceptable.

REO Speedwagon – Take It on the Run Lyrics 1 year ago
I listen to this song all the time because I recently got cheated on, and it sucked! This song is simply about a wife who cheats on her husband. The song is written from the husband's perspective. His friends tell him that she is having affairs with other men. He has a difficult time believing it, but knows that it is true, but if she is actually cheating, he will divorce her.

Kansas – Fight Fire With Fire Lyrics 1 year ago
I have a very unique interpretation of this song. This is my all time favorite Kansas song and one of my favorites of all time. I see the lyrics as about stalking/being violent towards your ex following a bitter breakup. Here's a breakdown:
"There's a hole in the wall with a light shining in/Letting me know to get up, time to begin." The whole in the wall is the window and the light is the morning sun. He is depressed about the breakup and he doesn't want to get out of bed, but he has to because of work/school.
"There's nothing to lose/Its already lost." means that since the relationship ended already it won't hurt you in any way to be violent to her. You won't lose anything for being violent because you've already lost her. "Standing alone in a crowded room/feel the chill in the air." means that you are in a classroom/workroom with other people but you feel lonely and cold due to the breakup. "Fight Fire With Fire" means fight the heartbreak, or "fire" of the breakup with equally harmful stalking/violence, which will feel good in the moment but ultimately won't help your situation or "put out the fire," hence the title "Fight Fire With Fire," because obviously putting fire onto fire may seem good at 1st but won't put it out. "Flaming Desire" is the desire to get revenge on the ex by stalking/being violent toward her.
That is my interpretation of the song. Have a great day!

Hozier – Take Me to Church Lyrics 1 year ago
Wow! I grew up hearing this song all the time, and I always thought it was about a person that likes going to Church. I never paid attention to the lyrics, and now I come here and see all the different interpretations! After reading the comments and listening to the lyrics, I have my own personal interpretation, and here it is:
This song has nothing to do with LGBTQ people. I see it as about a relationship that is nice and loving but was formerly toxic/abusive. In the beginning, where he says "My Lovers got humor, She's the giggle at a funeral" he is explaining what he loves about her. Then he sings "Every Sundays getting more bleak/Fresh poison each week" he is describing the conflicts that happened in the relationship. Then in the pre-chorus (Amen) and in the chorus, he demands to be "Taken to Church" which is a metaphor for being in love/Having romantic time with her, because a Church is where people worship, which means love "Shrine of your lie/I'll tell you my sins/You can sharpen your knives" means admitting the wrongdoings of each party in the relationship. Perhaps she was not faithful (Lies) and he committed domestic violence to her as a result (Sins). Then he sings about "Deathless Death" which means orgasm. In summary, while the verses describe the dark past of the relationship, in the title/chorus it is indicated that he strongly loves her and the relationship has gotten a lot better.

This song is either about suicide or drugs.

Boston – Hitch A Ride Lyrics 1 year ago
This may be one of the most misunderstood songs I have heard. It has nothing to do with Brad Delp's suicide, or anything about suicide. The song is about Tom Scholz' (He wrote the song) wedding and subsequent honeymoon to San Francisco, or maybe the wedding was there not sure. The original title was "San Francisco Day" and the lyrics were directly about the wedding and flying to San Francisco with his wife. The "Ride" meant the plane ride, and "The other side" meant the other side of the country.
On the version that was actually released, he changed the title and lyrics to be more relatable but still about his experiences. The updated song's lyrics are about wanting to leave something not particularly great (E.G. A loud big crowd) and go somewhere else, literally or figuratively. A potential example is a person that is in a huge crowded loud party and is having a sensory overload, so they leave into the peaceful quiet night. An example of the song's meaning on a higher scale could be someone that has an ill family member, going through a difficult divorce proceeding, a senior in the midst of stressful graduation season or any type of big ongoing hard thing in their life that they just want to go away from. I am currently a freshman in High School and all my friends are seniors/about to graduate in a matter of weeks so it is a very stressful situation for me, and I just want to Hitch A Ride and Head For The Other Side (Fly away to a less-stressful place figuratively). That is where the song becomes relatable to me.

Louisa Johnson – So Good Lyrics 1 year ago
This song is about staying out late on a school/work night. You know that it is unhealthy to not get adequate sleep for school/work but the desire to be out partying and not miss anything is more important. Teenagers and college students (Even Adults!) should use this song as a lesson to always get good sleep on school/work nights.
By the way, this is a great song! Louisa Johnson is more talented than Taylor Swift (Take That, Swifties!), and this is definitely her best song.

Electric Light Orchestra – Mr. Blue Sky Lyrics 1 year ago
This song is simply about the sun coming out after it has been cloudy and/or raining, which makes everyone happy. I love this song because it is about a very simple positive event that we can all relate to. Most songs are about hard things like bad breakups, sex, drug use, conflicts on tour, ETC. Why can't we have more songs like this? Happy and simple, even a 5 year old could relate to this song!

Boston – More Than A Feeling Lyrics 1 year ago
OK, I need to bring attention to this.
Almost EVERYONE has gotten the meaning of the song completely wrong.
It has nothing to do with "True Love" or "Letting her slip away" like everyone says.
The person that wrote the song, Tom Scholz, said that it is about "Losing Someone Important To You and the power an old song can have in your life." So basically, the narrator's wife/girlfriend has died, and he is heartbroken. One day he hears a song that was popular when she was alive and it reminds him of her, and it gives him a feeling so strong that it is more than a feeling. This story is also clear in the lyrics.
Guys, you got to listen to the lyrics! Not every song is about your past loves!

Electric Light Orchestra – Evil Woman Lyrics 1 year ago
This song seems to be about a girl that any male, in particular teenagers have experienced. That girl that either in a romantic, platonic, workplace ETC type of way has hurt that male's feelings in some type of way (E.G. Not wanting to be friends). In that case, even if they are not actually bad, you will always see them as an "Evil Woman." That is what the song is about.

Boston – Can'tcha Say (You Believe in Me)/Still in Love Lyrics 1 year ago
This song has a relatively simple meaning that everyone can relate to. The narrator is a boy who is dating this girl (Her name is likely Amanda because the album is a story) and she breaks up with him. He still deeply loves her and is begging her to stay with him because he can't live without her.

I do not think it is about suicide because Delp did not write the song; Tom Scholz did.

Guns N' Roses – Perhaps Lyrics 2 years ago
Maybe its because its happening to me right now, but I interpret this song as about making friends with someone and then they dump you because you do something they don't like. You try to apologize but they still leave you. If it has not happened to you, losing a friend hurts, a lot. This song will help you. It has the signature GNR sound to it. Would not be out of place on one of the Use Your Illusion albums. It has a similar sound to LALD, November Rain, or Heavens Door, but a bit faster and harder. The riff is also a complete ripoff of Sweet Home Alabama.
