this song reminds me a lot of the subtleties of being in an toxic/abusive relationship. Catching ever-present bugs symbolizing the futility of trying to meet the partner's list of demands. We are exploring a relationship dynamic: there are feelings of guilt, fear, paranoia from the partner, who is putting the onus on the narrator to soothe them. There is a sense of love and a lot of responsibility from the narrator. They are in charge of making the partner feel a certain way, and the song has a mournful sound that adds to the feeling that the narrator is exhausted but can't stop. "I MUST make you a perfect day". In my experiences with these sorts of relationships, there is deep emotional connection and a deep set need to do everything right for the partner. Often times the partner feels guilty for the pain they know they are causing, but the guilt just makes them lash out more and causes the person to need to 'fix' more and try harder to please the partner. |
