@[jbecan:53938] -- And the reason Columbian was gold was due partially to their habit of harvesting plants back then, but then leaving them to bleach in the sun. Because they couldn't always just move product right away. The green plants would turn yellow/gold. |

@[Cleanruss:52448] -- Much as I hate to say, I agree. Heroin seems the best guess. Especially the phrase "messing in the glue". Glue comes in a variety of colors: white, brown, black, and so does heroin. Why would anybody mess "IN" actual glue? Glue is some sort of metaphor.
Yeah, Cleanruss gets my +1. |

@[ScatScat:52396] - Depends if you like folk rock more than straight folk music. Personally I like both versions, but Dylan's the one who masterminded the original. |

@[Songster5:52395] -- It doesn't speak of any specific war, but given the time it was written (the 1980s) it does speak of who would've been most involved: Russia and the United States. Though Russia is not hinted at specifically, "Ronnie" is mentioned, a definite reference to Ronald Reagan. |

@[80stuneguy:52394] -- YES I remember the '70s, the principal of my elementary school getting on the loudspeaker and scaring the sh*t out of us kids, saying we needed to prepare in case a bomb was on its way.
You get a definite +1 80stuneguy...19 years after you posted your thoughts. |

@[thecrossbone:52393] -- Wow, who's thinking this is Viet Nam?
Agreed, it's the end of the world, with the "general" and "the boys" lucky enough to be jumping into a shelter, to get away from nuclear holocaust. "Ronnie" is a reference to Ronald Reagan. |

@[AaronXIII:50426] -- Ding Ding! this one is closest to correct. John wrote it very quickly. He wasn't stoned or drunk most of the other responses on this page. He may have been afraid of spiders, don't remember. But I do remember he wrote it quickly, literally the words were written in a few minutes because he needed to come up with a song quick! |

@[kevver:49739] -- I agree with hiwire (13 years after he/she posted). I don't know about the rest of them, but I agree: I don't think Fripp especially was a druggie. I can't see him tolerating drug use in the rest of the band either, but I'm not familiar with the earlier lineup as I am during the Belew era. |

@Major Valor -- High point of the Bee Gees maybe, but also it was released just before the demise of Disco! I remember this era, I was in middle school. I'd just taken disco lessons that summer, but then all the sudden disco was DEAD. |

@[wildlikechildren:48333] -- It's about somebody who's most likely been hurt by some others before, doesn't trust anybody, and therefore destroys whatever he/she begins to feel any sort of emotional response from. Gets rid of relationships before they can take hold, and so on. |

JCS was so fun and funky back in the 1990s! Definitely one of Maryland's hidden musical gems, although we're talking about back in the day when three of the band's members were named Jim, Jimmy, and Jimmie. Che (the bass player) was the only guy who wasn't a Jimmy. |

In America "skank" is a young tawdry girl who sleeps around, like a whore or a slut. |
