Richard Hell And The Voidoids – The Plan Lyrics 2 years ago
Drug withdrawal and recovery. Recovery is "the plan" ("she accepted my plan and so she caught the next train")

"I was mush to the bones", he knows what he did to himself and the effects of the drugs

"I covered the windows, I was taking no calls", depression and paranoia, maybe being sensitive to light instead of paranoia.

"Then I thought for a month inside the alien walls", I don't know if I have to take this literally but Richard puts real images on his lyrics to create a metaphor, so I guess this could mean two different things. "Alien walls" because when you're off your drugs the world looks different again and familiar things look strange. I had this symptom of uncomfortable unfamiliarity after being off amphetamine.
"Alien walls" could also indicate walls covered with drawings or colourful letters made while trippin balls or something. But I prefer my first interpretation.

"Now I know, they don't tell you so", they tell you that drugs will help you, drugs are better than sex, drugs make you so happy... but they don't tell you side effects. And now he knows side effects.

The daughter here is not metaphorical, he's talking about his experience, probably.

The plan was to create a life, he had serious intentions and then the mother left. The reason here is not explained, because probably is not important now. He's talking about quitting drugs and that's all.

If you listen to the other song of the album, "New Pleasure", he's clearly not talking about a new drug he tried. I think he already tried what he had to try those years... the new pleasure is love and sex, and the meaning returns here ("but we assume sublime poses"... sex).

"I once knew true love, she won't know another" doesn't mean that he is jealous of his daughter. It means, he knew true love and he hopes she will find that TYPE of TRUE love for a person and not another love, the love for the drugs.

"My little girl is my lover"... if this was a scary incest he wouldn't say "I once knew true love" because it would be a contradiction. It means that the daughter replaced completely all he did with drugs, she's the real lover.

Pet Shop Boys – Opportunities (Let's Make Lots Of Money) Lyrics 2 years ago
I have my theory. It sounds like someone wanting to rob a bank and who is using someone else that got the looks to distract workers and people there.

The protagonist already used someone else but knew the plans were not going to work ("I've had enough [...] jerks")
He also waits for the other man to go away with money ("my car is parked outside") but needs someone who's practical on fixing problems ("I'm afraid it doesn't work" to run away from the place and not get caught).

"Do you want to be rich?" Is pretty clear about the situation, but it's more like a manipulation since he has got the brains... he's just using the other man to not get caught and eventually give him something of the prize ("if you got the inclination I have got the crime").

Talking about sexual stuff is not so correct in my point of view even though it sounds interesting, but it would be useless to talk about Sorbonne and mathematics. He is saying that to get a "gentleman" vibe and reassuring him of not being a bad person, he just wants to be rich as the other man. He's showing his intelligence to say they won't get caught and that their crime is possible if there's "looks" and "brawn" as well.

"There's a lot of opportunities" there's not a single way to repair, fix and resolve things. They're actively choosing the criminal way to solve their desires ("if there aren't you can make them" / "think about it seriously, you know it makes sense").

You know, at this point I think that it talks about appearances. Even the man with the brains is under that influence, you don't need the look for that. His appearance is showing to be an intelligent, decisive man who studied in a prestigious school. And when it's about the look maybe there's just nothing under the surface. The man with the looks is not seriously thinking about what they're doing, he's just listening to the plan.
Both are not really giving a deeper thought about each other. That's because of money. When there's an obsession like money you don't think about the method and people emotions but you're obsessed about reaching your goal.

In fact there are lot of ways, but the criminal one is immediate.

Just my down on earth point of view.

MGMT – Little Dark Age Lyrics 2 years ago
When I listen to it I think about Ego Death.

"Open eyed" because psychedelics, especially shrooms and things that contain LSA, open your eyes.

Ego death is something I can't even describe and I don't know if I want to try it. Something you can't handle because there's no you, and you can't "hide, it doesn't go away".
You have to wait for it to go away... ages, age.
It seems an eternity. Hours on shrooms pass so slowly. I thought it was 2 hours at least and it was 30 mins.

"Feeling start to rot", trauma on surface; "forgiving who you are". "Get out of bed"? Interesting... the protagonist knows they have to stay on bed when tripping because they're taking an high dose and it's recommended to lay on bed. "Stone"... mhm...

I think "cards" are something like an oracle... they know when not-awake that magic doesn't exist, but when on trip everything meaningless have got a sense. And even cards give some information... "knowing what's nearby". Not an happy one, for sure.

"The stereo sounds strange"... I heard something similar on an Italian song about LSD** and it says that vinyls don't want to be heard from the wrong ears.

Idk, at least that's the meaning I give to it.

Bauhaus – A God in an Alcove Lyrics 2 years ago
Really, I hate live versions but for this one I have to change my mind. It's so much better. The original one kinda bores me, but the live version has got more post-punk sound which is perfect for me. I really love it.

Renato Zero – Depresso Lyrics 2 years ago

Infatti vuole andare via... "non è qui casa mia, non farò quello che vuoi".
Il protagonista allora non è internamente depresso ma semplicemente deluso dalle persone che lo circondano e si sente legato da queste. Ciò che vuole è scappare via, tuttavia è costretto a inserirsi in qualche modo nella società e vedere le ipocrisie davanti a sé ("depresso, depresso... scenderai sempre più in basso").

Questa, perlomeno, è la mia interpretazione :)

The Cure – Three Lyrics 2 years ago
In my opinion this may talk about searching for perfection and balance in musical composition.

"Three" is about: "The way you talk", "the sound of what you're talking about" and "the meaning and the feelings it gives".

At certain point Robert says: "You're all crooked" which may lead to the unbalance of these three elements.
____
Robert wants to give a sense to what he's singing. In here we can hear his voice, but it's too soft to understand what he's actually saying... so these represent more thoughts with himself than actually showing what's in his mind. Does he have to satisfy the public with showing us his intentions? No... because "I'll stay as I am". He wants to do things he likes.

"You really can annoy a person" - seems like Robert thoughts are invaded by intrusive thoughts here. --- I want, but I cannot --- I'd like to be myself, but I may be annoying--- etc...

"The way you shout in the quiet of the night" may represent The Cure music. Unexpected and gothic (the night), unpredictable as a shout. It may be a curse because it's not commercial, the way they explain music is not like a pop song that will be reproduced on the radio... and here, the thought (this time in a defiant tone) "just as you like".

--- Do you want to stay as you are? Well, these are the consequences... just as you like! ---

I hope it makes sense. Anyway this is my opinion of it!
