I was coming off a lie-riddled relationship when I first got into this song, and now I'm inclined to believe that's what it's about, especially since the interpretation is so easily applied to that situation. |

Great lyrics here from an underrated album and band, for that matter. I mean... Bukowski? Come on! |

That's Jim Jones (mass suicide, cult leader) ranting there in the beginning, recorded and smuggled out on tape just before the mass suicide at Jonestown. |

This whole album, "Release" has the most incredible apocaylptic, modernist lyrics EVER. Too bad CSC were ahead of their time. |

| Devo – Gates Of Steel Lyrics

I have always thought this song is poignant for some reason. Maybe its the chord progression, or the robotic-yet-moody synth tones, or the fact that Devo were pretty much right on about the theory of devolution. Is there some kind of positive call to action in this song? It seems to start and end that way, with a comment on modernist apocalyptic subversion occupying the entire middle, punctuated with the alternate voice blurting "A man is real, not made of steel." (sigh) |

| Metallica – Hero of the Day Lyrics

This song evokes for me a strong feeling of being haunted. "The wheels of despair," "time so slowly turns," the obvious pain/emotion/frustration in James's voice; these all along with the music perfectly create the sense of something being unresolved. Whether flashbacks of war, addiction, depression, or memories of the past, this song is trying to exorcise some kind of demon. |

Makes me think of how, even though you know something shouldn't bother you, how it's actually insignificant in the grand scheme of things, that there are these nagging thoughts (depression, regret, anger), that won't f-ing leave you alone sometimes, and you just have to go through the moods that they put you in, like bad medicine. |

I once asked Tori after a concert what she meant by "Greggy writes letters and burns his CDs," and she told me, "Why don't you burn one and see what you get?" |

My favorite part is "Huuuh bop bop, Huuuh bop bop, Huuuh bop bop, Huuuh bop bop." Just wanted to make that statement. |

Great production on this track, especially nuances like the panned scream at the end (nice work, Jamie). For anyone who wants to check out some Swift, visit:

You may or may not find this particular track, but they're all worth a listen, IMHO. |

I just took the "Put my thing down, flip it and reverse it" backwards part and reversed it in a sound editor. It really is Missy saying "Put my thing down, flip it and reverse it" in reverse. That's exactly what it is. No satanic messages here, just Missy puttin' her thang down... in reverse |

And what's that bit at the end, with the reverse reverb? "Go down, stick me down, go, stick me see, stick me down..." There's too much emphasis on it in the recording for it just to be a nonsensical sample. Anyone? |

F-ing brilliant track. I will never tire of this CD. Absolutely worth it to buy. Even better with headphones. This is the best track, especially the drums/percussive sounds. |

Does anyone have a guess what's being said in that whisper-part after "you-ain't-fuck-in'-chang-ing-me" It probably ends with "Go....." or something. I think that's one of the coolest parts of this song, the way it pops up from the side if you're listening with headphones -- and yet I don't really know what the fuck he's saying! "Pick up the pieces..." maybe? Anyone? |

I came across Placebo's version of this song while digging for some of their obscure tracks, then was taken in by The Smiths' original version. I'd never considered the humor angle of this song before... that would explain the cartoonish, Chipmunk-like background vocals. They make a good harmony, but sound totally silly. |

It's such a dark, depressing-sounding track, but jeez, the lyrics sure seem confident, defiant and positive. Why do I feel sad when I hear it? So, he got out of some crappy place, being there with someone he's singing to from this better place now. He doesn't sound happy about it in the song -- sounds sad, really. Kinda angry, too. Like it's too bad this person couldn't be with him. Hmmm. |

Although Princess |\/.\/|'s story interpretation is pretty damn impressive, and makes snse, actually... This song has always stuck me as nothing more than an experiment in the studio that involves phrases and words that rhyme. In an interview on 120 minutes, Placebo stated that it was amazing to go into the studio at the beginning of the day and then come out with a song at the end, indicating that this was a quick composition. Given where the vocal inflections occur in the actual singing of the song, the stream-of-consciousness interpretation of the lyrics could also work. |

| Jeff Buckley – Morning Theft Lyrics

I wonder what he had to send away... being on the road? Seems he's lamenting a relationship in a tortured kind of way. To hear what he emphasizses as he sings the song, those are the most pointed parts -- missing my beautiful friend, having no right to wonder. But there's still that emphasis on "send it away" that's puzzling. Hmmm.
