Jason wrote it as an homage to the band Unwound. Conrad claimed they had changed his life forever, stating that it had "epitomized America's disaffected, self-hating white middle-class guilt victims screaming about the fact that they have nothing to do with their time other than be bored, nothing to speak out against other than their own ennui and unwarranted discontent. And although that might sound like a criticism or an indictment, the fact is that this sentiment existed, it was shared by a lot of us, and it found its voice in albums like Fake Train

Conrad Keely told The Skinny that this song "is about Theophany – heavenly music." He explained: "It was inspired by a documentary I was watching on TV about Mormons, and after I'd read the book Under the Banner of Heaven, a very scathing indictment of Mormonism and a crazy story. Basically, the founder of church, Joseph Smith, had a vision, which he described as hearing the song of angels. I've always wondered – because of the universality of music and the way it's governed by laws we didn't invent, I guess I took that one step further to ask the question - if we're governed by these universal laws here, what would music sound like that was made by aliens? Or what would music be like that was made by beings of a spiritual nature – non-material beings?"

It is absolutely about worshiping false idols, particularly your parents, as one had mentioned. However, unless it was meant metaphorically, the time to f*** s*** up isn't when your parents are dead but when you realize that your parents are just as clueless as you are about everything. That is the time to f*** up the paradigms and beliefs they have bestowed upon you. Or if you don't want to destroy them, the door is there too...
