Red House Painters – Down Through Lyrics 3 years ago
I love that the classic Kozelek-ness of the scentence: "We\'ll find a house on the shore that showers MY soul". So shamelessly selfish to only consider his own happiness in that way. He feels sorry for himself, constantly, and his fantasies are centered around him alone. Even the last scentence: "Drains the pain that I\'ve caused you, down through" is from a selfish perspective. He just wants to drain it out, and forget about it, instead of looking within for the reason and try to change, for her. He just recognizes the pain associated with the abuse and tries to numb it. Classic Mark, and very inspirational.

Red House Painters – Take Me Out Lyrics 3 years ago
This song, in the classic Kozelek-simplicity-way, beautifully captures that relationships practiced the way they are suppoused to be, that people acting toward one another in they way they are suppoused to act, really is not ideal. The common view of monogamous love is wicked, and not at all designed for the ultimate happiness. I\'m thinking: going to the movies, cooking together, reading together, and being codependent on one another. Instead: Kozelek wants to feel alive, and go outside, view the real life, and have some adventure, instead of this cozy, comfortable nightmare. \n\nAt least that is my interpretation, I think?

Songs: Ohia – The Black Crow Lyrics 4 years ago
I cannot even tell whether "We were lightning" is the most beautiful description ever or if it is mediocre, and it is the song itself that makes it hurt in such a lovely way.
