I think this song is about being in a relationship while having a mental illness that has the ability to change your mood drastically. Maybe something like bipolar disorder or being a borderline personality. Lana pitches in how a part of why the character in the song is constantly shifting between a sweet wildflower and a rupturous wildfire is because of her parents, specifically the lack of her father sticking up for her which may have lead to an attraction to unstable guys, further amplifing the mental battle.

I'm not the biggest fan on Nicks but this song struck a chord especially during the headspace I was in. "That my face is not seen" was so powerful 4 me. I think the song is about being in that blurry space between friends and lovers. You both hope things work out for eachother mutually but in reality you both have the same feelings for eachother so there's not much to stress about. |

solange was gifted with songwriting along with her sister. i love the lines "remember when you kissed me, at jimmy johns when i was 17" because of the times i remember eating jimmy johns in my neighborhood with family and friends.
overall i think the song is about a relationship losing its fun and becoming dull. she thought she married the hot shot (probably from high school) and the guy ended up being mean and incompetent. the relationship in simpler terms ended up not working out. |

ugh this song breaks my heart... and she was only 16/17 when she wrote this i believe. definitley one of my favorites by her and i think it held major weight on the album since it talks about suicide in such a tone that makes your chest turn. love her songwriting and <3 billie |

i think this song goes into the mind of someone struggling with depression or darkness in their mind. the chorus "will there be another time?" strongly suggests feelings of nihilism or worry about the future continuing for them. Nico's voice is special for this track because I think she holds such a tasteful meloncholy tone, perfect for her songs with darker themes.
i also think this song might have to do with aging. "when the evening light wants to be so bright" makes me think of someone with an old shell who's spirit is still pushing but is held back by their physical state. the third line of the song sounds like someone dealing with the idea of things becoming harder for themselves.
my idea for the title 60/40 i could only come up with was risk when dealing stocks. this might be a stretch but I think she's trying to convey whether life is worth continuing at a certain point when the pain becomes overbearing. |
