This is the title tune of the record, too. A chameleon, a reptile, is known for its ability to change colors to adapt its environment, primarily as a defense mechanism against predators. Patti LaBelle and the Bluebells began as a standard girl group in the male-dominated music biz, then morphed into the feminist edgy, futuristic Labelle. Ironically, they didn't blend in with their surroundings. In fact, they stood out so far that -- in view of Madonna, Lady Gaga and Beyonce -- we can see that they were years ahead of their time. |
