Come with me
If you believe
Come with me
if you believe
The phases of the moon
are changing much too soon
we'll be devoured by the sun
and if you find me there
protect the love we shared
pretend you never cared and carry on
and sing the song
Come with me
if you believe
Chameleon sing and pray
that they will see the day
that night falls
and colors set them free
It's such a crazy game
(if you believe)
Your sighs, your face, your name
determines who's the same
should we make believe
that I've been decieved?
We lived on distant shores
until we yearned for more
opened our hidden doors and followed through
Now that we've seen your light
we know the time's not right
Chameleons seek the night before the dawn
I do believe
that I've been decieved
I do believe
that I've been decieved
Come with me
if you believe in the mystical world
if you believe in the mystical world
If you believe
Come with me
if you believe
The phases of the moon
are changing much too soon
we'll be devoured by the sun
and if you find me there
protect the love we shared
pretend you never cared and carry on
and sing the song
Come with me
if you believe
Chameleon sing and pray
that they will see the day
that night falls
and colors set them free
It's such a crazy game
(if you believe)
Your sighs, your face, your name
determines who's the same
should we make believe
that I've been decieved?
until we yearned for more
opened our hidden doors and followed through
Now that we've seen your light
we know the time's not right
Chameleons seek the night before the dawn
that I've been decieved
that I've been decieved
Come with me
if you believe in the mystical world
if you believe in the mystical world

I think this song is about spiritual transcendance to a higher conscienceness (sp). I belive it's all about leaving behind race, sexual orientation and class to become something higher. One of NOna's spaciest and best songs. Hearing Nona and Sarah howling at the end is spine-tingling. Great song.
Written by Nona Hendryx, this song resonated with me the first time I heard it. It speaks to our ability to transcend and change color once we understand that we’ve been deceived by conventional wisdom and norms about what it is to be a woman, man, class, religious belief, philosophy, political party and etc. When we believe we’ve been deceived then we like the chameleon change into our higher self.
This is the title tune of the record, too. A chameleon, a reptile, is known for its ability to change colors to adapt its environment, primarily as a defense mechanism against predators. Patti LaBelle and the Bluebells began as a standard girl group in the male-dominated music biz, then morphed into the feminist edgy, futuristic Labelle. Ironically, they didn't blend in with their surroundings. In fact, they stood out so far that -- in view of Madonna, Lady Gaga and Beyonce -- we can see that they were years ahead of their time.
