Initially when this song first came out, I assumed it was literally about "the missing link"...clearly it isn't. The first two lines really spell it out. This song seems to be about the internet in general. "A tool to do good has gone bad, Electric altar for a new religion" - over 20 years later, think of how attached we are to our phones, and technology in general... "A new way to link, A new way to think" - Information is at our fingertips now. we are literally plugged into everyone and everything. this has changed our thinking... "Individual thoughts that have become missing" - To me, this eludes to AI, and the idea that humans may be replaced by machines. Even in this age, we are still discouraged from being individuals... "Laugh at my words you fool, they will soon become living truth" - This Could be a prediction by Chuck himself as to what is to come... "Look at yourself in the mirror, Reflection is living proof" - Looking in the mirror to see that we are all machines, clones, drones? "When the link they breathe becomes missing" - once again, when we are no longer individuals with individual thoughts and feelings. To lose the human touch. "When we see the face of evil, It will be the demon reality" - The things we've lost, the horrors we've become, are because of us. This will be our reality one day. We've done it to ourselves. |

| At first I thought it was a relationship song. After reading the lyrics, it seems to be about a lot of the classic southern babtist fire and brimstone preachers...also eludes to Catholicism with “forgive me for so many lies”. Just my take...but I just heard “hallelujah” in the background of the end of the song, so my first suspicion was just confirmed haha | |

Certain parts of the song almost make me think of the lost continent of Atlantis. “The core reveals the past of a world once lost”. It’s also clearly about global warming becoming such a serious problem that all glaciers on earth just simply begin melting and burying everything in water and ice....maybe Antarctica is the siple dome? Another thing. “In 20,000 years the process will repeat”. Almost like it keeps happening, and has happened before. I’m taking this song as a warning and have since 2001 haha. |
