For me, this is about me having to make the decision to put my beloved dog to sleep because of his degenerative spinal condition - before he was completely lame. I look after his ashes now and I bleed because he was my reason for living and although I have lots of money for now I know that no amount will bring him back. Hence "this 'life' requires another name". In reality, Tom wrote these lyrics after visiting a refugee camp in Northern Greece. |

| My dog was at home when my home was broken in to. We were both left traumatised. When I had to put my dog down I placed a typed paper note in his ear before he was cremated. The words were the penultimate sentence in these lyrics: "I'm so sorry for the things that they've done". Like the original meaning behind this song, I wondered "what is the point of going on after this?" | |
