My girlfriend told me this song is about a girl who loses her boyfriend and mother in an accident and is totally stricken with grief to the point where she can barely exist. All she can do is get up in the morning and watch the sunrise. “Who is in you?” is what she says to the sun because she wants to know what kind of spirit can overcome the sadness in this life and rise every day. “You hide them behind you” means that the sun must somehow get past horrible things that have happened and people who have been lost. “I rise in you” is her imagining that the people we have lost remind us they are still alive in us every day. |
