Jónsi – Grow Till Tall Lyrics 3 years ago
You known some way through\nWon\'t you really want to grow and grow till tall\nThey all, in the end, will fall\n\n(repeat above x2)\n\n[Grow till tall, they all] in the end, will fall [You\'ll know]\nThey, in the end, will turn and fall\nYou\'ll knows, your path\nYou\nNot you\nNot you\nNot you\nNot you\nNot you...\n\nIt is what I hear from the album version. The live version with the shouting at the end and the visuals of a tree blown away eventually by a thunderstorm hints at something inevitable.. but for me, the repeated "not you" is like a prayer, for someone / yourself to remain true to oneself and to grow tall, and even though in the end everyone meets the same fate, you hope that you / they will not.

@[HelenFH:41210] That\'s interesting. I am surprised by the strange shouting at the end of the live version, and for the lack of a better word, the rage of it, perhaps it is more of a triumphing rage. I am not sure what was shouted but I think it\'s something like "They so cold, or today so cold".

@[magloot:41165] Hmm I listened to the the Go Quiet version and it now sounds like "You know it\'s time to, Won\'t you really want to.." but "it\'s time to" also does not sound right since it sounds more like "sum may tru".

@[magloot:41127] I think you are right, I guess it means "you knew inside you for a long time".

Portishead – The Rip Lyrics 7 years ago
for me it's about deep weariness, longing for rest and an end, may or may not be in a suicidal way, but there is also a calm acceptance and readiness to leave whenever and if death calls.

despite the disappointment, bitterness and pain they have felt and endured, they find peace in certainty of final rest that will come for all of us and bears no ill feelings for these that have hurt or harmed them (I realize that love flows).

wild white horses represents the waves of a riptide that pulls the swimmer out further to sea, and the temptation of surrendering (Will I follow?) instead of fighting because they are tired of struggling against the strong currents.
