These lyrics are deeply true. Sometimes you don't just find a song but you find yourself in its lyrics when you are lost. And I think that's exactly what music is about: telling stories and sharing feelings that people can relate to. After listening to this song I felt so understood. The lyrics mean really much to me... and I am thankful for musicians like TDG that express so much in one song. |

Those are some damn good lyrics! This song has probably saved the lives of many people (including me). Love how they use "you gotta swim, don't let yourself sink" instead of simply saying "Move along, never give up". |

| Actually Tim McIlrath explained that this song is about being a parent. It is about how stressful it can be to raise teenagers because they argue a lot and always want to get their way. And to educate those to reasonable adults can be tough at times. | |

Well this song is kinda self-explanatory. The words of the chorus are simple yet they have a really strong message. I like the use of metaphor in "masks we've worn up til now". It means people try to be perfect so hard that they hide their true identity. When you think about it... Aren't we all sometimes trapped in this insane drive for perfection? So this song expresses that we should allow ourselves more individuality. |

To me this song is all about personal strengh. No matter what tragedy in life hits you it's important that you keep on fighting. All the bad things you've experienced shape you and truely make you who you are now. And that's why "nothing matters but the pain" because the pain is what defines us. Sure, the song could be about a break up... but to me personally it is more about how the end of any friendship can hurt you so badly that you lose yourself and start to disbelieve in good times. So this song's intention is to remind you that those good times will come for sure and that your wounds will heal within time, as the title already tells. A very hopeful song that helped me through many dark phases. |
