Lane Biermann wrote the song for his two sisters, who are 8 and 10 years younger than he is, after their parents split. Lane stayed in their hometown with their father, while his two sister's moved with their mother. "I drove around this town, It looks the same as 1998" -the town they all lived in as a family, the year 1998 their mother left their father. "How do the lights look there tonight (correct lyrics) my dear? New York, New York." -the girls were constantly moving from place to place, never setting in one place. This was a nod at always feeling so far away. "I'll make this loud, so maybe you can hear." -in spite of the distance. "You know I love love love what you've got, and I know know know that I'm not the greatest brother that a girl could have, but promise me you'll drive around with me soon." -because of distance and age difference, the girls could never really connect with their brother, but they all loved each other and wanted to be able to spend time together even if it was just to take a drive somewhere as siblings. This song is even more beautiful and sweet than people think.
