Binary Love is written from the perspective of either a mere computer, or more intriguingly, an actual cyborg or human-like robot. He is in service to "her," and as the relationship exists, they are "friends." But, he obviously wants "has human desires," and begins by asking "don't you ever pretend, that we are more than friends." Since he doesn't have an actual heart, he expresses the feeling of becoming heart-broken with the metaphor of the woman "burning his circuits" and his "wires" becoming heated. Since they are human on the one hand, and cyborg on the other, they can't share the same feelings, and he isn't even supposed to have any, and even though he knows this and feels unrequited love, he forgives their creators (humans/God/makers of robots) and says "its just the way it is." As far as the line "are you corrupting me?" this is a "tell" that he is computer or robot in that files can become "corrupted" when bugs, viruses, bad code are written. The author created a great double-meaning with it since the robot is more than likely explicitly not supposed to develop feelings for his owner yet, "when I hear your voice, it fills me with noise," that undefined feeling of love, that translates as white noise or static to the robot's ears. |
