Gerry Rafferty – Baker Street Lyrics 7 years ago
A fabulous song from my high school days. It doesn't really bring back any major or important memories, just simply being with good mates and lovely girls, and us all being happy together during the last few months of school before we left for good. Can't believe how long ago all this took place, over 40 years! I have never seen some of those old friends for all this time, but hearing songs like this one bring so many memories back, and I can picture them all once again exactly how they were as if it was yesterday. Wonderful times!

Electric Light Orchestra – Sweet Talkin' Woman Lyrics 7 years ago
This is one of my all time favourite songs,
and brings back so many wonderful memories of the last few months of my high school days, and in particular of a beautiful girl from my class, who me and most of my mates were hopelessly in love with.

Returning to school after the Christmas holiday of 1977, I was chatting to classmates, with us saying what presents we'd received. I mentioned that I'd been given ELO's latest album, Out Of The Blue, on cassette. A short time later this girl mentioned that she'd overheard the chat with my friends, and said that ELO were her favourite group, and dropped hints about wanting to hear their latest album. I teased her for a while now, saying that all the local music shops would definitely have it in stock for her to buy! I got a few playful whacks now, so eventually I said, 'Okay, I get the hint. I'll bring it to school tomorrow for you to borrow.' This got me a thank you, and also a big hug, which several very jealous mates witnessed!

This girl had my ELO cassette over the weekend, and upon returning to school the following Monday she immediately came to me and thanked me once again for borrowing her the cassette, adding that she loved it, and had played it almost nonstop over the weekend, driving her parents mad in the process! I was really happy now, getting on so well with the girl of my dreams, and hoping that it may lead to us becoming even closer. (It did!)

Later this day, as I was walking to my form room I saw this girl ahead of me in the corridor, without her noticing me. I couldn't resist sneaking right up to her now and then serenading with, 'You Gotta Slow Down Sweet Talkin' Woman...' She immediately turned round giggling, before giving me another lovely hug, and now a kiss on the cheek! I thought I'd died and gone to heaven I was so happy. Just before home time I myself was given a lovely surprise when this girl sneaked up behind me, and returned my compliment, with her singing to me, 'Mr Blue Sky, Please Tell Us Why...' Cue another hug and kiss, and more jealous mates!

This wonderful situation continued for the next few days, when this girl now began dropping more hints about borrowing the cassette again. I was in a mischievous mood now, so said, 'I'm sorry, but I'm not borrowing you the cassette again.' She looked surprised now, and asked why. I looked at her sternly for a few seconds now, before giving her a big smile and saying, 'Because I'm going to make you your very own copy of it!' Unsurprisingly I now received a few more whacks to my chest, along with the now customary hug and kiss!

That night after school I made a perfect copy of 'Out Of The Blue' for this girl, with me also writing a very soppy message on the inside of the cassette sleeve. I presented it to her the next day at school mentioning the message, and hoping I wasn't making a complete idiot of myself. She read it in front of me now, 'To Xxxx, my SWEET TALKIN' WOMAN. ELO. My love for you came right OUT OF THE BLUE, but will last forever. From Xxxx, your MR BLUE SKY. XX' After a few seconds of shocked silence, she looked at me with teary eyes, before telling me how happy I'd made her, and with me now receiving my biggest hug and kiss so far.

Before much longer we were an item, and spending every possible minute together in absolute bliss and harmony. Five months later we left school, but stayed together for several more years, before work commitments and other matters resulted in our relationship having to end. We parted on wonderful terms, and with us both hoping that one day our paths would cross again, this time never to part. We serenaded each other one last time with 'Sweet Talkin' Woman' and 'Mr Blue Sky' and then, heartbreakingly, walked out of each others lives, sadly as it turned out, forever.

All these years later, I still recall those wonderful times with my first true love, and remember two fantastic songs which summed up just exactly how two class mates felt about each other, and helped to get them together. Without realising it at the time, that ELO cassette tape, bought for me by my mum, turned out to be the best Christmas present I ever received!

Leona Lewis – Run Lyrics 9 years ago
Not many cover versions are as good as, or better than the original song, but Leona's version of the Snow Patrol classic is right up there with the very best. I enjoy both versions equally, and never tire of hearing either.

Madonna – Like a Prayer Lyrics 9 years ago
Whatever this song is actually about; sex, love, religion...it is without doubt Madonna's best song by far, and one of the best songs of all time. Don't analyse it too much, just enjoy it!

Quite simply the best sing-a-long song ever written. It's almost impossible not to join in whenever you hear it!

Billy Paul – Me and Mrs. Jones Lyrics 9 years ago
Isn't it amazing how people's musical tastes differ? No offence to all the people who have commented on how much they love this song, but I have to say that it must be my least favourite song of all time. Well either this or that hideous one that's something about 'a great big onion'! If it's being played on the radio, I have to switch stations immediately, or if it's being played in a store, I have to hurry out as quickly as possible! Without being able to explain why, I simply detest this song with all my heart. Finally, I have no idea who this Mrs Jones actually is, but if she suddenly moved next door to me, I would be moving as far away as possible, as quickly as possible!!!

Slade – Merry Xmas Everybody Lyrics 9 years ago
In my opinion, the best Xmas song ever. Fairytale of New York is also brilliant, but this just has the edge. I think this is mainly because it gives me so many happy memories of my youth, and of singing and dancing to it with friends at my school's Christmas disco's. Wonderful, innocent times.

Slade – Cum On Feel The Noize Lyrics 9 years ago
As brilliant today as when it was first released 43 years ago! Brings back many memories of my youth, listening and dancing to the groups of the time...Slade, Sweet, Glitter (long before we knew!), Quatro, Mud etc. Great times, sadly so long ago, but never forgotten.

A fabulous song, sung fabulously! Kirsty was vastly underrated. Her untimely death was such a tragedy.

Frankie Valli – My Eyes Adored You Lyrics 9 years ago
This is such a sentimental and emotional song for me. Almost every word of it accurately describes my feelings towards a girl from my high school, the most beautiful girl in the entire school. During our time together we became best friends, with me falling totally in love with her. I was sure that she felt the same about me, but could not be certain, and so I just couldn't pluck up the courage to tell her how I felt about her. Eventually we left school, and a short time later we went our separate ways, never to see each other ever again. Many years have passed since those times, and I have had quite a happy and successful life, but every so often the memories of my school days, and my lovely friend, come back to me. I just wish that I could turn the clock back to those days, when I had so many opportunities to reveal my true feelings to this girl. I wouldn't waste this second chance, and hopefully I would have my feelings reciprocated. Wherever this girl is now, and whatever she is doing, I truly hope that she has had the most wonderful life possible, and that just occasionally she remembers our time together as fondly as I do.

Cat Stevens – (Remember The Days Of The) Old Schoolyard Lyrics 9 years ago
This song brings back so many wonderful memories of my school days, which took place around the time this record was actually released. Memories of great friends and lovely girls during the happiest years of my life. What I would give to relive those days once more.
