@[JJKelsall:52795] I’ve slept in a gutter. Once. I love that I found this today. Come a long way from that time. I’ve always been drawn to this song. Saw her in concert for the Cities in Dust tour. One of the greatest shows I’ve ever seen! |

My ship's a sail
Can you hear its tender frame
Screaming from beneath the waves
Screaming from beneath the waves
I think this one one of the greatest Maritime lyrics of all time. It really puts you there. I also think it’s possible that inspiration came from the Who: Rael. Also about an ocean journey and one of my favs too.
To me the full Ocean Rain album is like a running story. My favorite by Echo. |

Glad to see this song “get some love”! First Bill Burr uses it and now used in Reservation Dogs! It runs through the story a bit, and in the end they show a clip of them performing it.
What I get from the song, a guy is trying to patch things up with his gal. Get it from the main vine “not the grape vine”. It’s about communication in a relationship. Trying to bring her up, hail with it. |

| Nick Drake – Pink Moon Lyrics

My thoughts after last nights “Pink Moon” is that the song is about the passing of time. It could be the farmers almanac that says the pink moon comes at a certain time, which is April. And that no man is above it in importance. Time moves on and takes us all. Seasons pass over and over again. What a great song. On so many levels and meanings it’s just a great writer letting us know what it means to us. New meaning for me last night as I drove around until I could see it. Glorious song and Moon. |

@[B0FF0:21234] I always thought that line was about "The Man" and how blatantly obvious they are controlling us!! LOL so cool that it can be about Diablo II but have other meanings to people. Goes to show you we put our own meanings based on our experiences. Great song! |

Cash said this song was the greatest song about addiction ever written. He did an awesome cover. I wont pick whose is better because they are both so good.
My take on this: its written from the point of view of someone who is at the bottom. |

I read a lot of comments regarding Cash vs NIN on this song. When I first heard the Johnny Cash version of this song... I was blown away. He did interpret the song in his own way. But I truly believe that Cash was paying homage to the song, the same intent was there. A song about drug addiction. I read somewhere that Cash said it was the greatest song about drug addiction ever written. And, that is why he wanted to perform it. What a great honor he paid Reznor. A legend sings your song and praises it for what it is. A great song that captures the emotion of real life. And, there will never be a better cover of it, period! |

@[Fullmoon777:7592] I really think it's just a contradiction of life. Written from both perspectives, one side the addicted and the other side by the people connected. It's never black and white. I also think that Reznor may have been influenced by the song Heroin by the Velvet Underground. A verse in that song:
I wish that I was born a thousand years ago
I wish that I'd sailed the darkened seas
On a great big clipper ship
Going from this land here to that
In a sailor's suit and cap
Away from the big city
Where a man cannot be free
Of all the evils of this town
And of himself and those around
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know
It makes me think in both songs that the person just wishes they were different and not addicted. |

@[SquishyMon:7591] you are right on! I never heard that, but I believe it. You can hear surf music inside the song! That makes this song even greater knowing his intent was to pay homage to Dick Dale! The song I think it is "Apache". |

Hendrix wove the surf tune "Apache" into this song. It's throughout. It is %#*¥ing amazing great! My favorite Hendrix song! I remember back in high school one kid saying surf music sucks cause Hendrix said so... how dumb can you be. It's amazing the stuff that sticks in your memory.
I do believe he says "pickle" too. Like why is the human race in such a pickle all the time. |
