Excellent song but I see this differently than the previous comments I feel it's about a guy who had previously dated this girl.. still friends.. still wants her "Who's messing round with you in the corner? He better say his prayers" - basically she is this person that doesn't know how to commit so outcome is pretty much inevitable so any new person better say their prayers that this time may be the change And the narrator is the friend/ex that sees all these new relationship come and go and in the midst of it all he is always her comfort.. "I wish you would try and look A little more excited Let me stay, let me 'cause I'm coming anyway" Basically saying "I wish you would actually show that you care about me like I care about you.. Let me stay for good because every time a new relationship fails .. you are calling me back to comfort you anyways And like a fool I always come back.. Last Man Sranding |

People want to relate how they want to relate.. I feel this song is about a past relationship with an ex that all a sudden wants them back again- and he is questioning his decisions on whether or not anything will change from the 1st time they were together "Could I be anything you want me to be It's always meant to be seen" She wants him to be something he is not and when they are in public, she wants others to see him as she wants him to be "And I'll try To hold on tight tonight Pink slip Inviting me inside Wanna burn skin And brand what once was mine But the red views Keep ripping the divide If I go everywhere you want me to go How will I know you'll still follow?" @[slickvic:46323] I could agree with you, but in hindsight, your opinion shouldn't be valued anymore than anyone else's, a couple things, Some people here are trying to say it is about a related sibling or what have you, which i just don't see that point of view myself, perhaps a stranger that was befriended or even a help counselor, IMO, the line "They were right about you" gives way to that thought, kinda like this outsider had also had conversations with the subject's friend or family members to collect additional info so that the outsider could make his own path on how to tackle the situation, but ultimately in the end, the other sources were right by saying nothing is gonna change or work, but there is also the line "Craving fame" as if it were like a mass school murder situation, and some new kid at school befriended the subject because he was different, but the more he got to know this kid, the more he learned how deep and destroyed the subject was mentally, and the more the subject trusted the new acquaintance, the more he revealed his thoughts, which puts the new acquaintance in a tough situation, where maybe the line "They were right about you" is all the other school kids that warned the new kid about the subject |

I think this song could be somewhere on the same boat as Train Drops of Jupiter... they both sound like Midlife Crisis themes.... "Even though the moments passed me by... I still can't turn away." (She left him unexpectedly.. and he is still living with this pain of unresolved closure) "All the dreams you never thought you'd lose, got tossed along the way" (things didn't go as the person thought they would through out the relationship or life in general, and they feel they missed out on something) "Letters that you never meant to send, lost or thrown away"... (letters of how this person is feeling but couldn't actually speak out about it) "Now we're grown up orphans that never knew their names" (now we are grown up and yet lost identity of who we really are) "We don't belong to no one that's a shame" (being lost you feel a miles away from any real connection with anyone) "You could hide inside me maybe for awhile, and I won't tell no one your name" (the memory still exists in his pain but he doesn't feel the need to exploit her?) "Scars are souvenirs you never lose, the past is never far" (the past haunts the person from having any realistic values going forward in life/relationship) "And did you lose yourself somewhere out there, did you get to be a star" ( this is my "Drops of Jupiter" plug ... did you find yourself and all your dreams?) "Don't it make you sad to know that life is more than who we are" (life has so much to offer and are we satisfied with how we are living it...have we accepted it) I have read in midlife crisis.. When people lose loved ones especially elders. ..they can question whether this is all life has to offer... and they don't want to wind up the same. "Grew up way too fast... now there's nothing to believe and re-runs all become our history" (not being able to experience your younger years the way it was meant due to circumstances like perhaps early motherhood.... and the type of thinking that became their circumstance repeats on and on until they can acknowledge this truth of chosen paths.) "A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio and I won't tell no on your name" (new relationship, same problems...here we go again... not realizing that there's a failure of learning that is causing this similar picture... groundhogs day... until you recognize and choose to change the path that leads you to this re-occurring problem...The problem will repeat) "I think about you all the time... but I don't need the same" (he still thinks about this person although he has finally moved on...so he doesn't need to be thought about the way he thinks about her... There are people that need solutions to mystery... and this haunted him... not understanding why) "It's lonely where you are, come back down and I won't tell em your name" (it's lonely being lost soul searching and never reaching these unrealistic dreams... In the end you will lose so much that you cannot ever get back in the same way) This is just my personal thoughts.... I am experiencing someone that i believe is going thru a midlife crisis and have done a lot of research about it.... This connects so well for me in this nature |
