This song is about the drama queens and kings that must argue/ fight while in a relationship (only because they don't know any better). If you don't join them in this act of immaturity they will subconsciously think you don't care and withdraw, first emotionally and then physically (which is a good thing). But, I've been there before. |

This is one of the few songs from the movie that director John Carney co-wrote (for good reason). The song serves as a common ground for two characters to connect. If you take the movie away, I'm not sure I would like this song as much if at all... But of course that is not the case. |

I think that the songwritter is "hating" on this guy because this guy is going for everything and living it up in so many ways. The writter is trying to convince this guy to give up (or choose one way or the other) because he doesn't have any ambition or ability to keep up with him. This guy is the quintessential "golden boy" and it pisses him off. |

Everybody loves this song and it is for sure about a stipper but I think it is a little darker than just a good old song about a stipper. This song is about a woman (stipper) who was murdered after a night of dancing. In verse two we are introduced to the hustlers and losers that hang out in the pool halls close by. Next, closing time and her making her way alone down an empty street paint a picture? Why go with those lyrics? As a songwritter I know there are many other options. How about "as she made her way home down that moonlit street"? |

This man left his lady only to realize later how much me misses her. She will not take him back and that only makes him want her more. By the end of the song he has laid it all out there but she wants nothing to do with him. |

In verse one - This girl is set so marry another guy but is going behind his back. That explains the difficulty of them making plans. When they do get together she says she is not going to go through with it but she does the easy thing by going through with it because her fiance is a rich man.
In verse two - The sunrise represents a new start (she is now married). He still wants to be with her and will do anything (even lie to her) to accomplish this. Now that she is married "you gonna have to call it by a brand new name", and "please don't drag me down" shows his newly developed concerns. |
