| Tegan and Sara – Paperback Head Lyrics | 9 years ago |

I think the key to understand this song is: a paperback head that has to frame up a material girl. Paperbacks are cheap version of books compared to a hard cover book. (Paperback editions of books are issued when a publisher decides to release a book in a low-cost format. Cheaper paper, glued bindings, and the lack of a hard cover contribute to the lower cost of paperbacks. Paperbacks can be the preferred medium when a book is not expected to be a major seller or where the publisher wishes to release a book without putting forth a large investment. Examples include many novels, and newer editions or reprintings of older books.) I think this song is about having a paperback head / mindset but having the needs of a material girl. Then this song could mean two things: 1) You/ (the singer itself) are yourself a material girl. A paperback head but the body/ needs of a material girl. 2) You want to be in a relationship with a material girl So you need to “frame up a material girl”. This could fit with the song referencing to material girl of Madonna. Which is basically a song about how a material girl only dates “material” boys. Indications for these interpretation are also you have to become what you fancy. The album is also Sainthood where you try to work/ devote yourself to change/ to be better. - I gasp like sugar and spine might be about the difficulty to resists the actual needs of being a material girl and to ask who is better at resisting this needs of being a material girl. - I gasp in my needs ,who is better than you paperback head who is better than me as a partner? - Paperback head you got carried away, paperback head you spend too much - Paperback head you got carried away: paperback mind set you had it wrong - Stitch up your spine to: means become a hardcover book to keep the suitors ( the love rivals) away - Stich up your spine to keep the suitors away in combination with draw your own aid might also mean you have to become a hard cover in order to not have to rely on others financially (suitors). |

I think this song is about how labels and bad names are used to much and how if you want to change it you have to get over the bad labelling. Whether it is about going to live in a bad neighbourhood or for a straight girl to date a lesbian. “The girl is not ready for hell.” If you want to change things you have to get over the bad labels and work on them. I think the chorus is actually about the girl: I know you have this feeling too…. These words ( labels like hell or lesbian) get overused. When we get up and over it and over them. ( if you want to change things you have to sometimes get on the bad labels and use them too much, people who are changing labels often are the ones using them the most) I know you feel it too it all seems so un true when you get up and over it and over them. ( a lot of the BAD labelling seem so untrue, not to matter that much, when you see the reality of it and when you actually feel, experience them.) It’s hard to change things: HELL NO - Avoid collection: we don’t want to go collect the downtown trash - We are not ready for a change in mindset (fair distribution) no we just want a fixed label (terminal solution) - There are different ways to discard what we do and to hide it/ deny it and by that denying there are other solutions/ other ways. - Hell might also be partly disapproval of the girl of her neighbourhood : she doesn’t want to go live in hell with a lesbian |

I think the song is indeed about making a scene and being dramatic while actually not wanting to do that. I think it's about feeling upset about somebody who "runned around on her." This might have been somebody who "cheated" or someone who is ignoring her. To me it seems that she felt the relationship or thing was more important and essential to her ( die without) and that the other person should not have runned around on her, but still it was not that serious that it feels justified to be so upset. no hissy fits, mind my manners I won't make a scene But she still is very upset, so she has to deal with that and also with the fact that she is being dramatic and sensitive. The song is a way to deal with being upset and this person treating her badly and a way to get " over you ' (it are alligator tears and the last parts of over you's) |

| I think it's both a love song and a song that is about forgiveness and hope. | |
| K's Choice – Believe Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I love this song! It means a lot to me, and described exactly how I felt going through a break up in an exam period. I once saw an interview in which Sarah said the following about the song " Sometimes I feel that I'm really strong as an individual: I know what I want and I'm my own person and and then sometimes I feel so little. And I realize how much I need the love of my husband, my friends and my family, and how little there would be left in me without all of that." Great song, great band! | |
| K's Choice – God In My Bed Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| To me for a long time, this song was about acceptance and forgiveness, that was the god who came to bed. But I suppose it's probably written as an ode to love and the healing effect of making love. But actually I think it's about all those things together.:) | |
| K's Choice – Almost Happy Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I agree that the song is probably about an unfulfilling relationship where the singer is investing so much but it's never really works out , so it hurts. But I also think this song can be interpreted as the singer being almost happy herself. It's not just the other person that is almost happy, she herself is also almost happy. So she is in fact talking to herself and wondering if I could look beyond your face and photograph your hidden place, would I find you smiling in the picture. Even if you love yourself and you are doing fine, not knowing what you want or when to stop and can be easy to get lost in and fall asleep in life and by consequence be almost happy. | |
