What a beautiful song! I am actually surprised that no-one has commented yet. I like the fact that its melodic simplicity leaves room to the lyrics to be distinguished. Perry Como's version has always been my favorite. I think it's about two people that used to -and still do- love greatly each other, but have drifted apart for unknown reasons. Both sides acknowledge and accept the separation, although they can't help but feel sad about it. The chorus describes a scene of true intimacy, where they distance themselves from any external 'disturbances' -the unsparing reality if you like- and for an instant (and most likely for the very last time) share a moment of genuine love and tenderness, just like the way they used to. I think that this the general notion of the song; the sense escapism and reliving of a familiar comfort. |

| Michael Jackson – Fall Again Lyrics | 10 years ago |

I think it's about a couple that has been facing obstacles that challenge their devotion and endurance and quite frankly they both feel overwhelmed by the situation. It seems that they have been spending some time apart. Yet, the protagonist never gave up his faith on his partner and on all the things that experienced and overcame together. But I can't help to feel torn a little, every time he sings ''i want to fall with you again''. There is no suggestion that he has found peace within himself after all the difficulties they have faced or that all those hardships made them stronger and he looks forward to a new future; a future that carries those troubled moments but is expected to be brighter. He just looks back. I can, however, understand him. He feels exhausted and tired. But why not... try? Even if they had before and didn't work. Whenever I listen to those lines,I get a lump in my throat. About Michael, what can I say? his vocal deliveries are always excellent; even in the case of a demo. His sincerity in his voice is without exception unmistakable. |

| Christina Aguilera – Walk Away Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| I feel like songs like this, as well as 'I'm OK', 'Understand', 'Mercy On Me', and 'Oh Mother' separate her artistically and of course vocally from other artists of her generation. There is a purity in her deliveries if you will, an unmistakable power that reaches the level of a 'roar' -that so many have criticized-. Yet this element, in my opinion, provides a well needed catharsis to the listener; a closure. Add to this the delicate issues (addiction, hardship, domestic abuse etc) that encircle the songs -most of which derive from Aguilera's personal experience- Christina Aguilera surely is a very dynamic and worth-mentioning artist of the 21st century and one my favorites. Although, I think some of her latter artistic decisions and directions should have been reconsidered, if not altered. | |
| Michael Jackson – Black or White Lyrics | 10 years ago |

I took my baby on a Saturday bang ''Boy, is that girl with you?'' ''Yes. we're one and the same'' The opening verse describes a conversation Jackson is having with a racist person, who is deeply offended by the sight of Jackson with a white girl. Referring to Michael as a ''boy'' he is questioning the fact that a white girl could show -romantic- interest in a black man. It is vital to notice that the word 'boy' is a racial slur; if not a proxy for the word ''nigger'', it is a close cousin. We can find the use of this word in other Jackson's songs too. ''Pull over,boy/and get yo' ticket right'' he sings to a man' -or the social order?- who '' is preachin' 'bout my life like you're the law''. |

| In the first verse, the correct line is ''he gives a nervous smile'' not ''another smile''. | |

Assessment like the one provided by WK truly captures the general feel that this song radiates. However, I daresay that -maybe- we underestimate the darkness that encircles the lyrics of this song. Both ''Give In To Me'' and ''Who Is It'' are -if not the darkest- some of the most dark relationship songs Michael has ever written. They are definitely not simple love songs. There’s longing, but for sex, not romance. Though many of us - the female fans - may rush to swoon over lines like “Give it when I want it/Quench my desire/because I’m on fire'' a more thorough look into the rest of the lyrics may - and can - reveal a much more brutal nature. This is a man who wants to hurt and abuse the woman who has hurt and abused him. Just Simply Do The Things I Say Give It When I Want It You Always Knew Just How To Make Me Cry And Never Did I Ask You Questions Why It Seems You Get Your Kicks From Hurting Me Don’t Try To Understand Me Because Your Words Just Aren’t Enough Give It When I Want It I Don’t Wanna Hear It Tell It To The Preacher Raven Woods in her review of the 'Dangerous'' book by Susan Fast comments in her exceptional ''AllForLoveBlog'' blog: ''This is no tender seduction, but a desire to rape. He wants the satisfaction and feeling of sweet revenge that comes from having physical power over her; to subdue her to his will. Sex is being used as a weapon. ...However disturbing it may seem by today’s standards, the idea that a woman could be submitted to a man’s will by sexual submission seemed to hold a romantic sway over public imagination. In popular culture, through songs, plays, books, and films, society seemed to condone rape as an acceptable means of breaking the will and spirit of a “difficult” woman. ... This similar desire to hurt and brutalize-to punish-through physical submission is also at the heart of “Give In To Me.” ...Of course, what we don’t know is whether the protagonist is actually committing the action in the song, or only fantasizing about it.'' I think that this is a very interesting - at least - interpretation of this song. |
