For the Good Times Lyrics
Don't look so sad, I know it's over
But life goes on and this ol' world will keep on turning
Let's just be glad we had some time to spend together
There's no need to watch the bridges that we're burning
Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops blowing soft across the window
And make believe you love me one more time
For the good times
I'll get along, you'll find another
And I'll be here if you should find you ever need me
Don't say a word about tomorrow, or forever
There'll be time enough for sadness when you leave me
Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops blowing soft across the window
And make believe you love me one more time
For the good times
For the good times
But life goes on and this ol' world will keep on turning
Let's just be glad we had some time to spend together
There's no need to watch the bridges that we're burning
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops blowing soft across the window
And make believe you love me one more time
For the good times
And I'll be here if you should find you ever need me
Don't say a word about tomorrow, or forever
There'll be time enough for sadness when you leave me
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops blowing soft across the window
And make believe you love me one more time
For the good times

What a beautiful song! I am actually surprised that no-one has commented yet. I like the fact that its melodic simplicity leaves room to the lyrics to be distinguished. Perry Como's version has always been my favorite.
I think it's about two people that used to -and still do- love greatly each other, but have drifted apart for unknown reasons. Both sides acknowledge and accept the separation, although they can't help but feel sad about it. The chorus describes a scene of true intimacy, where they distance themselves from any external 'disturbances' -the unsparing reality if you like- and for an instant (and most likely for the very last time) share a moment of genuine love and tenderness, just like the way they used to. I think that this the general notion of the song; the sense escapism and reliving of a familiar comfort.
