Like other users have said, if you ever experience cheating you realize how universal that feeling is and that this song is the best portrayal of that. I shouldn't have listened to this after I broke with the ex cause shit was depressing lol Nevertheless, the song plugs on the heartstrings because it's true. After a whole year of gaining perspective you start to realize that you can't control other people's actions and that it's not a reflection of your self-worth if your girlie/hubby fucks around. There's a darkness in being cheated but once you get to the other side you kind of just take it as a part of life. Animals do what animals do :) |

Brendan is talking about a time in his life where his ideals were still alive and how the world slowly sheds that away from you. You gain introspection and realize that the anger you felt as a teenager was because you expected too much of the world. A theme similar to 'Hesitation Station' where he says, "Animals do what animals do." The lines about the subway walls are his futile attempts to get the world to acknowledge him and his sadness/anger. Same with shouting in parks and scraping his voices on the stars. We are ultimately grains of sand in a vast universe. The sadness we feel now means nothing to the world. Finally, the line "I am man with guitar, i am three's company it's the end of the world, sit and watch with me" he's just stating that they are simple men making simple music. Join them on this crazy ride. This song means a lot to me. I came to it in a time where I really needed to vent and was in a pretty fucked up place. It's got this eerie thing to it where the lyrics don't say much but the subtext and tone in it really paint you a vivid picture. |

Knowing Brendan (as much as you could from interviews and his blog) "take a chill pill, lover, or you're going to explode" is probably meant to be incredibly sarcastic and corny, which is why I like it. The song is most likely about people hurting you and realizing that it's just in human nature to be shitty, himself included. But you gotta become an asshole in order to survive the sharks. |

This song really nails the feeling of being in a dying relationship. It's a mixture of sadness, nostalgia and anger. Staying up late, not being able to sleep because of a girl, wanting to say the right things, wanting to leave but also wanting to stay... One of the best on the self-titled. Anyways, lads, they almost never feel the same. If you feel it in your gut, it's probably legit. Cut and run while it hurts less. |

It's been a long time since a song has given me chills. Hadn't heard this song in a long time and this one did it. That last part is so good. Basically, do stuff for yourself, not for others. |

| Cake – Mexico Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| I always thought it was about a guy with inferiority issues but the other interpretation of the girl having "more" feelings than him makes it much sadder, imo. He's aware of this and knows that sooner or later it's gonna show she's much more in love with him than he is of her. Sad song... | |
| Blink-182 – Waggy Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| This song's simple: have some dignity. Never play the part of the fool because it's humiliating and no one should stand for that and when you leave don't look back. | |
| The Lawrence Arms – Seventeener (17th and 37th) Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| I feel like this song is Breandan's version of Chris' "The Slowest Drink at the Saddest Bar..." Just growing up and finding out that life isn'tas pretty | |
| The Lawrence Arms – Navigating the Windward Passage Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
The song seems to be talking about people who think they understand you and your problems. They just fill their mouths with vapid advice and get upset when you don't "get better". The singer's telling people that he's all right on his own and doesn't need empty words to feel better. Fun fact: Navigating the Windward Passage was slang for anal sex very back in the day, so Brendan is basically just telling certain people to go fuck themselves. |

Recently have been getting into Neil Young, and I'm really loving his stuff. "I want to live", "And I'm getting old" Such simple lines yet they really hit home. Nice. |

In a general sense, I think the song's about feeling lonely or unwanted. The dirty god/body thing could be referring to how he feels when he keeps hooking up with the same girl even when she probably doesn't feel the same way. I think we've all been there. We wish another girl/guy felt the same way about us but for whatever reason it doesn't happen. So maybe we'll start being someone who we're not (I think Brian has said in an interview that he had never smoked pot, so if that's anything to go by, he's not exactly being "himself" in the song), so we start smoking pot, hiding, hooking up or any number of things that makes us feel dirty or desperate. Then we take a step back and realize we shouldn't hurt ourselves like that. My favorite line by far is: "And I am alone only half of the time The other half I am only hiding" |

I can relate a lot to this. I think it's about saying the wrong things at the wrong times and making yourself give a bad impression when your intentions weren't really bad in the first place. It also seems to be that the character keeps trying to get on people's good side but fails to do so, eventually realizing you can't make everyone happy. Such a personal song. Favorite line: "Connections I've made never follow through, And sooner or later dissapoint you" |

| Twenty One Pilots – Car Radio Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| @[jonjonwinny:6644] Thinking lets you see things in a different, more honest light. As someone who's high school was filled with non-stop thinking, I guess I can see where you're coming from that it "ruined your life", I kinda felt that way, too. But sooner or later, you learn that thinking opens up your mind and that it's possible to be happy despite the sad possibilities that surround us. Good luck! | |

I think it's funny that most of the comments I've read portray the silence as evil, a bad thing... But I feel like the singer is saying that thinking isn't a bad thing, because you find things about yourself you never knew (including the dark thoughts), and that's not a bad thing. We all have dark thoughts, but there's a certain beauty to having these perverse thoughts because it shows us how we as humans all have this innate worry wondering if anything matters or if this is all worth it, etc. We just have a lot of things distracting us. I feel like it's necessary to plug out of everything every once in a while and just think. Silence isn't violent; our thoughts are. The sooner we face these thoughts, the sooner we realize that they're just a part of the human condition that is called 'thinking'. Good song! |

| System of a Down – Tentative Lyrics | 10 years ago |

I think the song's about how the ones in power have given us this idealized view of war and how the majority support the war as long as it's for "freedom". Would we care if another country bombed us if it's for THEIR freedom? We don't really know what it is like to suffer from war (unless you count Pearl Harbor and 9/11, which is barely the tip of the iceberg of what war really is capable of). The ones in the goverment have shelter, sure, but what about the citizens? Where are they supposed to go if bombs begin to fall because of our country's own greediness? Is it fair then if we're getting bombed, if it's for the other country's freedom? So, then... why is it fair for us to bomb other countries? |

| The Lawrence Arms – Presenting: The Dancing Machine Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| Also, the title. Maybe it has no real meaning, but the thing that always comes to my mind are those monkey toys with the cymbals playing them over and over. A robot with a monkey head, dancing for everyone's enjoyment but getting tired and sad of not doing anything else. | |

The song to me is about how boring and repetitive life can become. The person is talking about how he feels himself detaching from friends. I feel like this song clearly represents the angry side of depression. Holding stuff in until you can't bear it anymore and just say, "Fuck what we say and all that we do". I love the last line "I'm saving my self for something beautifully true," and the instrumental in the end because it gives off a kind of hopeful feeling. The character feels that he won't just give himself over to the drudgery of life and wants to be truly happy. Genuine happiness; not for the world to see but for himself. |

I think it's about those moments in your life where you've let yourself become an apathetic drag and you slowly realize it in yourself. You kind of try to change for the better, but you're deep in your apathy. I feel this song's not about sadness, but about feeling emotionless. What really makes the Lawrence Arms stand out to me, I think, is the very specific imagery that they seem to convey in my head. I can imagine times in my past where I just sat around and moped, dissapointed with myself and relate it to this song. Even though the lyrics don't seem to be very hopeful, I feel like the melody juxtaposes the lack of emotion, making it sound kinda hopeful. Awesome song! |

I love the line "Just proves the universe is chaos so you laugh to clear the lump from your throat" I feel the same way. I don't think that it's possible to get through this life sane without laughter. Humor has always been a way for me to cope, even in the darkest, unfunniest moments. Awesome song and awesome band! |

| Lagwagon – Heartbreaking Music Lyrics | 10 years ago |

It's definitively about their old drummer, but I also think it's about people we've hurt and how some things will never heal completely with time. It might seem like they do, but the scars will always be there and can open up as wounds anytime. Such a powerful song. "I am the jest malignant cell" I think this line refers to how thoughts of guilt can perpetuate into something worse or how depression and suicidal thoughts start out as something small and slowly take over your mind. |

| The Fall of Troy – Macaulay McCulkin Lyrics | 10 years ago |

For some reason, I thought that maybe the song isn't about the crazy dude actually doing all of this stuff but him just going nuts inside his own mind. He plays this perverse scenario inside his head over and over again until he got himself in such a scary state. I think the main reason I say this is because of that final verse. She's tearing him up inside his own head and the part where it says that he ran behind her makes me think that he's just following her around but not really fulfilling those empty, pathetic threats inside his head. He wants to get her attention, but he never has and he never will; so he just lives with this fantasy of killing her to finally make her see who his. Maybe one day she'll know his fucking name, but he won't do any of it. I dunno, just my thoughts. |

| Dinosaur Jr. – Watch the Corners Lyrics | 10 years ago |

To me this song's about growing up and how time will never change... Time has never stopped and it never will, so it's "set in stone". I get nostalgic when I listen to this song, there's just something about the song that invokes nostalgia and childhood. Cold, chilly summer mornings and staying out late with my neighbors. Good times! Also, that solo at the end was such a defining moment in my music-listening history. It's so good. Dino Jr. haven't lost a step in their music! |

| Soja – Here I am Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| To me, the song's just talking about a girl that really doesn't appreciate a guy as much as the guy appreciates her. The guy has feelings for her and tries to avoid her to not go deeper and deeper into her, but in the end he hangs out with her anyways. She's playing around and he knows it, but he goes out with her anyway. Awesome song! | |
