The Disaster March Lyrics
There was a time and a place
That was all full of mistakes
And a face that was all full of shit
I was frustrated and angry
I was more than alive
A catcher in the rye
I was a jet plane...a thin membrane
Washing, and preening, and shedding all hope
I'm Hot Shots Pt. Deux, I'm down periscope
The rope that I'm hanging from keeps telling me what to do
I'm pissing on the fire, and learning a remarkable truth
About you...
Ugly is ugly...transformation is a dream, a dream, a dream...
So love what you are, not what you would like to be
I'm a drunk with a job, I got pictures to prove it
I got some junk in my trunk and the dance moves to move it
(x2)
I am written on the subway walls
I am bitter when I fall
(x2)

Shout me in the streets and parks
Scrape your voices on the stars
(x2)
Whoa...
"i am man with guitar, i am three's company
it's the end of the world, sit and watch with me."

Oh
Good friend, how loud do you want life to shout her answers in your ears?
That was all full of mistakes
And a face that was all full of shit
I was frustrated and angry

I was a jet plane...a thin membrane
Washing, and preening, and shedding all hope
I'm Hot Shots Pt. Deux, I'm down periscope

There's a two line stanza, repeated once, that is towards the end...between the last two stanzas up there. I can't for the life of me figure out what it is...my brain can't get past the riffs to focus on the words. If I figure it out, or if someone else can catch it, I'd love to put it up here.
"I'm a drunk with a job, I got the pictures to prove it I got some junk in my trunk and the dance moves to move it"
the best line off that entire album, the last three songs are the three best
I got the line...finally :)
tell us.
yessss, please tell us!
(I'm) On the head of the tower, please come with me It's the end of the world, sit and watch with me On the head of the tower, please come with me It's the end of the world, sit and watch with me Oh
Sorry...thought I had posted it before
This is (together with the "ramblin' boys") my favorite song of that record. This song is haunting...
I was trying to figure out the movie clip...After fiddling with the sound equalizer on my PC, i still couldn't make that shiiiiit out...has anyone else had more luck...and that low brendan lyric about the end of the world is pretty interesting
this again is another master piece from the lastest amd probably best one from the lawrence arms. in short this song is about bren putting into perspective a break up situation. the opening lines are talkin about his personal connection with the novel "Cacther In The Rye" and the infamous Holden Caulfield that all teenagers have in them. But really follow the lyrics to the song he basically keeps on sayin the world is a dumb place and i keep on pissin you off and i keep on finding more and more out about his girlfriend. toward the end he starts to discuss about you should be happy wiht who you are. the confussin lines "i am written on the subway walls...bitter when i fall" he talks about Paul Simon's lyrics tagged in a subway, and gettin pissed off about his g/f leavin him.
cool song and painfully true toward everybody
this song is definitely not about a breakup.
it's about typical angsty youth, and realizing dissatisfaction and discontent with the world is something people have been feeling for years (hence the connections to simon and garfunkel and holden caufield, icons of the past).
also, those last lines aren't correct:
"i am man with guitar, i am three's company it's the end of the world, sit and watch with me."
the only reason they aren't included in the booklet is cos of a lyric change.
straight from brendan himself.
