I got this album as a gift shortly before entering rehab. It was in my car's CD player for almost that whole winter. I listened to it through on the way there and back. Every time I hear it it's complete emotional recall in great ways, bad ways, but mostly just a neutral feeling of calm and concerted thinking. This song in particular, for me anyway, applied to the inner conflict between the person I wanted to become and the 4 years of drugs, alcohol, debauchery, my setting, the people, my M.O., my schedule, all of it. It felt like i was breaking up with a close companion and kicking him out of the driver's seat. I learned a lot, some of it was regrettable (you hit the nail on the head previous commenters. I was speaking in rounds with myself weighing the pros and cons, debating life change. Come get what's lost, what's left before it's gone (my previously healthy, optimistic, sensible, loving self). More often whenever I feel conflicted I should give this song a listen. |
