Richard Harris – MacArthur Park Lyrics 8 months ago
I always felt that it was a requiem to a special person or a special moment in time. On that level I think it is quite beautiful.
I also felt that the apparent absurdity of the lyric was to some extent a device to counteract the otherwise bombastic nature of the song.
It is quite grandiose and cinematic in scope, even to the extent of including a little Pearl and Dean musical interlude.
And the choice of an actor to perform it rather than a singer.
Or maybe it was the LSD!
Maybe it defies interpretation!
Either way I think it is epic and wonderful

The Brian Jonestown Massacre – Vad Hande Med Dem? Lyrics 8 months ago
I was interested that the translation from Swedish reveals a completely different lyric to the English version Anton Newcombe sings.
Sorry, I have no view on the meaning, but having listened to Newcombe spitting out his charmless, superficial rant I would much rather listen to the swedish version. Great tune though

The Modern Lovers – Roadrunner Lyrics 2 years ago
These lyrics don't seem to bear much resemblance to what he is actually singing on the released 45.
Whatever, it's a great song

The Stranglers – Duchess Lyrics 10 years ago
Hugh Cornwell is on record as saying this was about an ex girlfriend; an aristocrat with direct links to Henry viii.
She lived alone in a huge mansion.
She had a constant stream of upper class potential suitors, who she rebuffed in favour of low life junkie rock star :-)

David Bowie – Alternative Candidate Lyrics 10 years ago
Wasn't this the period when Bowie was into the cut-up techniques practised by the likes of William Burroughs?
He wrote out lyrics on paper, then cut them up and re-arranged them randomly.
The lyrics can thus probably be interpreted any way you want, as they are at best vague, non specific and crudely juxtaposed.
Works though doesn't it? One of his best songs imo
