Going dark on this one...think he is saying he knocked up someone and they are contemplating birth or abortion???...mother, brother, previous lover, may have all been in the "shadow" of what to do? Ehh...life is not grt and no one's life is either. Song just explains how no matter what side of life you come from there are always trials n tribulations. And how nobody really cares..leave me alone I am just trying to do this jigsaw puzzle..simple thing in a hectic but common world. First set of verses prob some fool waiting round for bad girl with love gone wrong...second some lowlife thug criminal either trying to do rgt for family cuz of hard times or just a general dirtbag...third is somewhat biographical with the references but again places everyone in the same boat...fourth is bout elders ranting n nagging bout stuff and prob shot at government in England. Don't give a shit because all I am trying to do is a jigsaw puzzle! I think the puzzle is a metaphor for life. Living it thru rain n shine! |

I think it"s about the sadness of getting older. Getting home in the evening after work...kids are playing. "riches"...money can't buy happiness..."rain falling on the ground"...kids will play no matter the weather and as adults we pay attention to dumb nuances like weather..."I used to do..think are new"..new to them but will become mundane to them like we have experienced. Excellent song regardless of my interpretation. |

Love this song! Very difficult to sing along with as is a lot of stones songs lol...kinda like a live one. Meaning is defntly a lover burnt etc...chorus hooked me big time originally and had to find out all the in between lil rants mick goes into but well worth the close listens I've had! Highly recommended to listen to closely and Mick has such a unique voice it's well worth it!! |

Always said this line as a kind snide remark to someone including my kids..so makes me think it's just the usual stones antithesis to peace/love/everything gonna be alright attitude of the hippies n such. Pretty clever I think considering since the other philosophy died out as quick as people started believing it. And Jimmy Miller played percussion all over this song so I don't believe any references to Hendrix lol! Cool try tho!! |

Can't help to think there is sexual undertones in this song given all the previous stuff by them at this point in their career. Never really did the cutesy pop happy shit that this song sounds like...incredibly cool tune with great strings arranged by JPJ who was definately a mastermind of Zep! Just think Mick is too wicked to lay down such in your face obvious lyrics of prettiness, beauty, loveliness, etc...maybe I am being too cynical lol! |

Great tune!! Very suggestive I believe in nature especially round the original time it was written. Always why I loved the stones more than the Beatles...never strayed from their roots and always an R n B/Blues rooted band with sleaze!! Great Wolf/Dixon classic that Stones pay homage to and very well too!! |
