Burning Airlines – The Surgeon's House Lyrics 22 years ago
This is an amazing song! What it means, to me anyway, is a father maybe revealing something to his son for the first time. The son perhaps feels angry at his father for hiding the truth from him this whole time. I don't know what he means by "The Surgeons House" maybe a symbolic reference to being cut open by memories. . .or maybe its just his father's occupation.

Another meaning I toyed with was that the singer's mother had just died, or someone close to him in his family. He was angry about the change and was reliving the memories. Eh, just thoughts. Anyone else?

Collective Soul – Why - Part 2 Lyrics 23 years ago
Who knows, but its awefully poetic. But I have a question, why is this song called "Why -Part Two"? What about the first part (I have it) and why is this the second part of it? The first song called Why, is about peace and stuff. Hmm. . . questions, questions that need answering.

Creed – Ode Lyrics 23 years ago
They sound like Alice In Chains in this song. I really like it, I think its about someone hurting the singer, after the singer has done everything to make things better for the person.

Its kind of confusing, especially at the beginning (the chorus is more clear) but I really love this song. It's one of my favorites.

Take me as my body burns
Let me see you yearn, while I cry

Dave Matthews Band – Grey Street (Busted Stuff version) Lyrics 23 years ago
This is the story of my life. The girl in the song is searching for something, she doesn't know what.

Oh look at how she listens
she says nothing of what she thinks
she just goes stumbling through her memories
staring out onto Grey Street
she thinks, "Hey, how did i come to this?
I dream myself a thousand times around the world
But I can't get out of this place.

She wants to be somewhere, anywhere, other than Grey Street. She remembers being different, her memories of dreams and hopes. Then the colors began to mix together. To grey. And so she remembers a better time, not saying anything to anybody because every time she does she is shot down. She keeps her feelings inside, and it could be this which hurts her the most.

there's an emptiness inside her
and she'd do anything to fill it in
but all the colors mix together--to grey
and it breaks her heart

Shes confused, she tries everything she knows how to do, but everything she tries just falls apart, mixes together, to grey. She doesn't know what to do and she wants desperately to do SOMETHING to make something, anything in her life change, but none of the colors are quite right.

how she wishes it was different
she prays to God most every night
and though she swears it doesn't listen
there's still a hope in her it might
she says, "i pray bu they fall on deaf ears,
am i supposed to take it on myself?
to get out of this place

She struggles with her faith, but (perhaps because of the way she was brought up?) she keeps praying to god, every night, hoping that if theres something or someone out there, he/she/it will hear her, and help her. She's too little and too helpless to do anything about her situation, she wants someone bigger to help her.

There's a stranger speaks outside her door
Says take what you can from your dreams
Make them as real as anything
It would take the work out of courage
But she says, "Please!
There's a crazy man that's creeping outside my door
I live on the corner of Grey street
And the end of the world"

When someone DOES come to help her, perhaps a friend who cares for her, an old love, though Dave says "stranger", perhaps it is the god she's been looking for. He tells her that even in her hopeless, empty situation, to never stop dreaming, to believe in hope even if it seems bleak and grey at times. But then she spits it back in his face, thinking he's out to harm her.

The line:

There's a crazy man creeping outside my door,
I live on the corner of Grey Street,
And the end of the world.

Is my favorite line in the song, and perhaps the most tragic line in the song as well. There's the answer, right outside her door, and she calls it a crazy man who's out to get her. Who is she talking to when she calls for help from this man? Thats what I always wonder.

She feels like kicking out all the windows
And setting fire to this life
She could change everything about her
Using colors bold and bright

Here, he's frustrated with her. Dave's voice just rings out with a desperate, sad, hopeful, angry frustration at this girl who could change her life if she would just LISTEN to what others had to say. But instead she tries to do it herself, find her own way, paint her own picture. Dave's voice, at the peak of hope, sings out beautifully of the "colors bold and bright", but then drops down as he realizes. . .

But all the colors mix together--to grey
And it breaks her heart
It breaks her heart
To grey

At the end of the song, there still is no hope, no end of Grey Street in sight. You wonder if there is anything more out there besides Grey Street, because the colors are still mixing together, nothing is going right, her heart keeps breaking and no matter how hard she tries she can't do anything about it. Maybe if she'd just listened to the "crazy man" things would have been different. This is my favorite Dave Matthews song and one of my favorite songs ever, and even though it ends on a somewhat hopeless note, it does wonders for me when I'm depressed. :)

A Perfect Circle – 3 Libras Lyrics 23 years ago
This is a lovely song, I am impressed by all the wonderful interpretations of it so far. But my perception of this song differ some from the rest of yours, excuse me if I step on anybody's toes.

I really relate to this song, I always have thought of the "fallen angel" as society, or people I care about, who I've fought with. If past relationships are included in that, then it refers to that too. It seems he's talking about how he has something to say, something he wants people to hear, but how can they hear him if no one listens to him or looks at him?

Kinda hard to speak if no one looks at you. I am in love with this song, both for the music, the lyrics, and its relationship to my own life.

I would say that it is indeed "difficult not to feel a little bit dissapointed" when you want people to listen to what you have to say, to see what you really think and who you really are inside, but they only look at the outside, the surface. I sense a kind of desperation in this song, a sad, quiet desperation, because the singer has built walls around himself, and he can't get people to look at what is inside the walls. The "eyes of a tragedy" might very well be his own.

It was his own fault that he built such walls. And now he sees the damage that they have done to his own life, by sheilding the person that he truly was inside, perhaps even to himself.

*shrug* I dunno, thats just my perception. Feel free to disagree ^_^

VAST – Flames Lyrics 23 years ago
VAST is one of my favorite bands, and it makes me even happier that they aren't as well known as some other groups. This is one of my favorites songs, though every VAST song is beautifully done, this one is, I think, exceptional.

The strings in it just stir my heart, and you can really hear his emotion and his longing. Its truly beautiful.

VAST – Touched Lyrics 23 years ago
Odd really that some people are depressed because of the song, some are given a sense of hope. Well well, music is capable of just about anything.

This is quite a haunting song. The way it starts out, the lone strumming of a guitar in a minor key, and then he sings it, as if his voice really is touching something. As if its a tangible substance to be picked up and held. His voice just affects me like that. He sings each song with reverence, I've noticed this espcially for this song. "Touched" reminds me of my ex boyfriend, who was, to say the least, quite eccentric. I still am a bit in love with him, and every time I listen to this song I'm reminded that part of myself will forever belong to him. I agree with Nero, you can't change the fact that you love them, even if they're gone.

Michelle Branch sounds way more mature in this song than in alot of the other songs she sings, in my opinion. Also santana's guitar is just AWESOME.

Moby – Extreme Ways Lyrics 23 years ago
I think this song is about alot of stuff he's seen. Alot of stuff that maybe he didn't want to see but he did anyway. And he knew that it helped him later in life. Even though it made him calloused it helped him become what he is today.
