When I first heard this song I remember it sounding pretty sexy, but now it only makes me sad as I can identify with it too much. From my perspective, it's all about a woman who's craving affection and trying to get what she craves through sex. "Please tell me I'm your one and only Or lie and say at least tonight I've got a brand new cure for lonely And if you give me what I want Then I'll give you what you like." She seems very aware of the (presumably) man's real intentions. She's trading her body (what he likes) for a quick fix for her loneliness (what she wants). "When you turn off the lights I get stars in my eyes Is this love? Maybe someday I've got this scene in my head I'm not sure how it ends Is it love? Maybe one day So don't turn on the lights I'll give you what you like" A hopeless romantic, she really wants to believe it is more than just a hookup, but she knows it is only that, so she wants the moment to last for as long as possible. |
