Joe Purdy – You Can Tell Georgia Lyrics 11 years ago
I think your view makes the most sense. However, in one of his live performances of this song (http://youtu.be/5APE6s5st18) he says "I wish you would. And I'll be waiting" after the chorus. It's possible it's about having a crush on someone with whom any kind of romantic relationship would be impossible, the fantasies surrounding those feelings, and waiting for them.

I think this is a hopeful song motivated by tragic experiences.

The character had gone through shit ("sins," "troubles," losing his friends, and crying), but the end lyric is not 'this old knife's gonna take them away' - it's his/her heart that's symbolic. Therefore, I believe it could easily be about suicide in the same way as some people could easily have committed suicide but instead carried on.

He repeats "Not today. Cause we gonna wash away." I believe in this way, he/she is acknowledging their emotions, experiences, and actions; and in doing so, letting go of them and moving on.

It's a celebration of emotion - the negative and positive - as well as the human experience, including upward change.

Just my opinion.

Beauty is just another arrangement of stuff unless appreciated. Understanding why something is beautiful is a big part of appreciation. It is a great song, and there are reasons to care and to try to understand the poetry that Joe Purdy wrote.
