The words "pounded out' here sort of puzzled me too. But I believe these words in context represent the chewing action of a rabbit eating rice. What else would a rabbit do with rice in front of it if not eat it. The "pounded out" could mean how the jaws of a rabbit would pound out or chew the rice into a soft mulch which would make it more edible. This probably represents the state of mind of the "doleful girl" who is turned to mulch in and out from all of those bad relationships she's been through. Then again, it's just a thought so who knows? |
