Save Your Secrets Lyrics
You are far more likely
To be devoured than empowered
By your sense of romance
Oh, doleful girl
Alone in the world
Where did her true love go?
Well I'd like to know
This means everything to me
Hope someone will see
That those innocent days were a life ago
You are far more likely
To be devoured than empowered
By your sense of romance
Even the most gentle of folk
Will snap when provoked
I ain't scared no more
I've said that before
I sense it on your breath
You're frozen in your depths
Where did the good guys go?
Well I'd like to know
Save your secrets for those who deserve it
But like the rice pounded out by a rabbit
I'm miles away from ever understanding
Why I had to be more of a man then
To be devoured than empowered
By your sense of romance
Alone in the world
Where did her true love go?
Well I'd like to know
This means everything to me
Hope someone will see
That those innocent days were a life ago
To be devoured than empowered
By your sense of romance
Will snap when provoked
I ain't scared no more
I've said that before
I sense it on your breath
You're frozen in your depths
Where did the good guys go?
Well I'd like to know
But like the rice pounded out by a rabbit
I'm miles away from ever understanding
Why I had to be more of a man then

I love this song. Sounds like it's about a girl who's been through a lot of bad relationships.
"To be devoured than empowered by your sense of romance Save your secrets for those who deserve it " these two sentences made me cry
But i cannot understand " like the rice pounded out by a rabbit" what the heck does it mean?
The words "pounded out' here sort of puzzled me too. But I believe these words in context represent the chewing action of a rabbit eating rice. What else would a rabbit do with rice in front of it if not eat it. The "pounded out" could mean how the jaws of a rabbit would pound out or chew the rice into a soft mulch which would make it more edible. This probably represents the state of mind of the "doleful girl" who is turned to mulch in and out from all of those bad relationships she's been through....

Then again, it's just a thought so who knows?
I think the whole song is about a girl who used to have such a romantic view on life, but her view has been changed by bad relationships with bad guys who treated her indecently. I think a the end wen he sings, "I'm miles away from ever understanding/Why I had to be more of a man then," he's looking back and remembering that he treated girls the way this girl that he cares about has been treated--the way he's looking down on other guys for treating girls-- and he doesn't really know why he ever treated anyone that way.
