Exactly, he has no respect for her. She is a kind of property, a trophy. The sadness of the song is his incredible self-absorption. He's is an absolute narcissist, unaware of her feelings. When he's saying hold tight, we're just beginning, they've already leapt. Then he tells the whole story: The forbidden love, the forced trysts, meeting him on his vast veranda so they can "both go down together." He's a misunderstood rich boy who punishes his parents with suicide and murder. |

First off, Mac is the lyricist, and generally the song writer in general; however, he gives credit to all his band mates for their musical contributions in creating their parts. I'm glad people are rediscovering this band. To me, they WERE the 90's (and beyond). Anyway, I really feel like you guys have had some really good thoughts as to what this song is about. When he says "I had a crush but nothing works out," it just rips me apart. One of these days, when I see them in concert again, I'll ask Mac what album track 6 and 7 are from. |
