This story is about a guy who really likes a girl, but not sure how to convey to her about his feelings. He walks her home, knowing that she will leave soon. He felt nervous and tried to find words to tell her how he feels. He wonders if she will ever come back again. "I heard that you're moving away... Fumbled in my pockets for a final word. The girl tells him about her plans in life, and he told her he could imagine her fulfilling her goals, yet he secretly ONLY saw her and him together. "Walked me through all of your plans. I told you I could see it all, but all I saw was you through the space in your fingers." He doesn't want to hold her back, but only wishing he could know her better. She tells him all the people she knew died from a "silent cause.. quiet desperation." As he continued to walk her back, he too felt the same way as the others did. This silent desperation depicted his sadness for her leaving, but he cannot seem to convey his thoughts through words. He doesn't want to hold her back, but wished he could know her more and that she could stay. |

This song is about a guy who knows the 'right person' finally came in his life. He once felt for the wrong girls, the outer beauty like cadillacs, the lies like honey but finally he met this genuine girl, and he likes her. "but no one feels like you and I like you..." He hopes that it won't be too late, that this chance won't be gone. He's hanging on the hope that it will work out- even if he has to do the chasing. "and there are times I know when I will have to chase you the further from my side you go, the longing grows." Perhaps this song speaks about a guy having a crush on this girl, but doubting whether the girl has the same feelings about him or not. Perhaps, we've all been through a phase where we had an infatuation for someone. Yet, it may be unclear, fuzzy, and confusing. "Was I a terminal distraction? Or just a chemical reaction? Or is it chance or is it fate? Was I just standing in your way? I find it hard to understand..." We then contradict ourselves, and wonder if that person likes us or not, if they do feel the same way, how could they love someone like us? "I find it hard to understand How you love this ordinary man And so extraordinarily Maybe it's all unraveling according to plan." Yet if the person does see something in us, and has a mutual interest in us as well, then things will slowly starting to reveal itself. This song "Dice" portrays a message between two shy lovers. The shy girl is wondering how it would be like to take a chance- neglecting what others may think, what society standards are- "seizing the opportunity" to convey to the guy her true feelings for him. Likewise, the guy is feeling the same way as she does. Yet, whenever the chances come "dice" she and he can't seem to come to words, and the only thing that they could come close to words was simply conveyed through a smile. "Although we smiled, there were no words left to say..." Chances keep coming, "only once not twice." They are hoping that by the "mercy of dice" chances would keep coming until they could eventually be able to express their true feelings for each other. |

The broken bottles in the hotel lobby represented the frustrations, and the alcohol that was consumed in order to cope with the sadness. The person is admitting how it's not easy to let go, and perhaps even admit the fear of not being able to be in love again. People often say we could move on, and through time it will be better, but the person knows it's not that easily done. The person is reminiscing of the days they've had with their love. The person has high hopes that perhaps they are able to return back to the days, but it's not possible. Those days are only memories now. The world still moves on, and time still flies. Beautiful memories are often made, but are gone within a brief moment. The person is wishing for that feeling and memory to come back, but it was only yesterday... and no matter how sad or nostalgic the person may be feeling now, the world still spins... and the hopes are only an illusion. I think this song is related to people who have either lost their loved ones, or just ended a relationship with someone they truly loved. They realized how people have to eventually move on, but it isn't always easily done. They are scared of never being able to move on, or simply being able to love again with someone new. However, they realized that at some point in their lives, no matter how they are feeling at the moment, the world still goes on. So, eventually, it'll be ok to go out and start again. |

This song depicts more of a young, and first love relationship. The couple is running around beneath the sunlight. He or she acknowledges that their love will not last forever, and this brief, temporary moment of joy is ok. Yet, with a brief moment, the truth is known, mistakes are made in their relationship, or perhaps the feelings are no longer there. It ended with a change of the heart- the other person' heart. He/she acknowledged from the beginning the temporary hapiness they've had wouldn't last forever- a love like that- but.. they didn't mind at all, simply because they loved they person. |

The situation in this song seems to be portrayed as a separation. The girl sees her lover in a very sad state. He is staring into space, and shadows are across his face. But the girl knows that it won't take her long enough to reassure him that everything will be ok. They will perhaps endure a distance in their relationship, but she reminds him that whenever he feels lonely and sad, he can think of the times they've once had, the place they've once shared; and he will be able to reach to her heart. And if one day, his heart fades for her throughout time, it'll be ok, because she'll be able to find her way back to him anyway. Yet, if he moves on, she hopes that he will be able to find someone who will truly love and understand him- even more than she does. This interpretation could be interchanged as a guy's point of view too. |

This cover by Lily Allen portrays a different imagery in comparison to Keane's version. I felt as if this song was speaking about a memory a girl once had. The girl came back to the place where she was so familiar with, a path where she has been returning to time after time. She sat by the river and reminisced of the days she once had with him. The simple days they've once had seems to be gone, and it seems as if she's the only one remaining in the past. She feels weary and wishes she could rely on him. Time passes, and she wandered back to the place where her and her lover once knew. She came across the fallen tree, and she asked herself if this was really the place where her lover and her wandered. The surroundings were no longer the same as they were in the past. She then realized that the simple days she had with him were from the past, a memory. It was no longer a dream, but perhaps a reality that she's getting older and need to learn to let go, and rely on someone new. She cannot keep waiting for the memories return again. She wishes she has a chance to see him again. A chance to be with him in a place they once only knew... A chance for a closure of letting go and a chance to move on from the memories... |
