@[coccaj:24402] Excellent analysis. Australia is much more cruel than when you wrote this, starting 2013, they take everyone on a boat heading there to a country not even of their own, Papua-New Guinea, which is like, the Haitii of south-east asia and put them in refugee prisons over there nowadays.

@heretical pacifist It's about how oppressed people at the other end of the world have the human right to dignity and peace just as we do and our colonial ancestors did their very best to stay overseas and control territory so far away from their own land that Todd just tells 'em, the roads have already been made by the ex-colonizers, just move wherever you think you'll have a better life and those living there disapproving is unwarranted so don't care about them reactionaries.

@[Quankers:24073] It's hard to pick a favourite Prop song, but great choice. The long instrumental beginning is great, also incredibly difficult to learn to play for the bassist and drummer! Such countertimes. It's very depressing but sometimes a depressing song is what takes all my blues away for some time anyway.

Best Nirvana song, and awesome use of a multi-distortion pedal I ever heard, even the last few gargles of it at the end are amazing. To think they were practising this song since 1990....

I learned it on guitar and people say Nirvana is very easy to play, I didn't do the distortion masterisms, just the chorus riff, one time out of 2 Kurt palm mutes the first note and it gets confusing because you can only hear it if you're a real music maniac.

@[egb:20039] Wow, In Seattle? This album was a fuck you to the pop punk vibe (although it could get really intense still, on Nevermind). Heard Soundgarden in the 80's? The band that screwed grunge (a blend of metal, punk and stoner rock) to me is Pearl Jam, first album in 1990, and it's not got one song that's even harder hitting than Lounge Act (which is awesome, and when Kurt starts screaming it gets even better).

"just take a look around outside to know what we're about to face".

Basically the Markovian Process indicates that if something happened once, it will happen again, so Fukushima-like event in the US, check etc...

"Show to your ancestors what you did to them and then just go away" Get old and tell your kids how things used to be better when everything was the same just lower scale.

Nirvana – Lounge Act Lyrics 7 years ago
Bass line kills. Also Kurt's outburst of pure raw emotion at the end (and not in the emof*g way, in the punk/grunge/metal whatever way) is so good gives me chills still to this day, granted, I didn't listen to Nevermind in about a decade when I picked it back up, when I listened to Nirvana it was almost exclusively In Utero because of how fucking great that album is, and I'm more into metal now and In Utero has metal and punk flying in almost every songs except of course the obligatory slows Kurt would always do, which are great too, sometimes the best melodic slow song is made by bands like Black Sabbath (or Nirvana)...think Planet Caravan.

No interpretation here. I just want to say that that bassline is amazing, Krist you should have kept on, now you're disabused of the Democratic Party even at the state level, 2016 Krist would kick 2004 Krist in the nuts. Fuck both parties they're both evil.

As for the best moment in the song....when the song speeds up and Kurt yells TRUTH and recites that verse with even more words to it. It cannot be a made up story he sounds too fucking sincere when he screams this part.

Don't know what book you're referring to, there's like 95 of them, but he's speaking about/to his very first girlfriend, the one on About A Girl. Saying he still smells Courtney (ugh...Love blinds so much) on her saying that yeah he's slept elsewhere and if she can't take it "i can't let you smother me". etc. I forget just now the name of his first girlfriend, he was with her from 89 to sometimes in 91, when this one from Bikini Kill and then Courtney showed up in his life then.

@[luv_burns_me:16833] No it's obviously about him telling his first girlfriend, not the girl in Bikini Kill, his true first girlfriend, that even though he's slept with other girls he wore a condom. The whole song explains to her how he cannot be the only for her. Same as he does in About a Girl.

Lagwagon – In Your Wake Lyrics 7 years ago
I like to think of it as the US government since 9/11.

They bring back that playful female voice from "Trashed" used before "Lazy" but this time it's not funny...this song is disturbing and powerful.

"You're next to hang...the next to hang...the next to hang...the next to hang...." The way Joey's angry old school Lagwagon vocals for this part is so amazing following the poppy yet amazing inside your head-inside your head-inside your head-inside you part that seems like it won't stop. Well, it does stop and it sounds like on the last "hang". That it's the last time we will hear Joey on a record. He's hanging up after Hang and some years of touring for it, I'm sure of it, which makes me sad, but the messages conveyed by them in all the songs I know by heart since I'm 14 (first 2 albums) and later on when I rediscovered them when they went out of that late 90's slump with Blaze. I just gotta apply what I learned from them. Hang is a big warning sign. The bees are not mentioned for nothing...look up how bees are doing...

It's crazy, the US has never been in a more dire situation...NOFX likely released their last record, BR promises us one last record but unlike True North the band's already lost 2 members, one practically founding member (Greg H) and Brooks on drums who really revitalized Bad starting from 2002 and until sometimes earlier this year...

Probably my favourite theme album since Pennywise's About Time (all songs being about time in a way or the other, some obviously, some you gotta know the lyrics for (Freebase, I Won't Have It).

Lagwagon – No One Lyrics 7 years ago
I don't know if this was written after Kurt Cobain died...the album was released in summer of 94...reads a lot like it. " Another no one blows his head off Because only the extreme makes an impression when drowning in the mainstream... no one"

Nirvana were respected by other kinds of punk bands, probably the only band liked in the whole spectre of the genres, they essentially made it possible to live from playing punk (the words of Fat Mike back in 1992 or so).

Anyway, this song when I feel weak (including "Weak" on Hoss heh) drains me off the negative energy still, 22 years later...

Lagwagon – Dis'chords Lyrics 7 years ago
Amazing song, like pretty much all of Trashed, best Lagwagon album by far. Listened to it on stereo with only 2 cassette tapes when I was 14 and it's still so solid, the serious songs like this one, No One, Rust, Island of Shame, Give It Back, Coffee And Cigarettes, and the never-should-have-been-removed version of Choke (it's on the 2 CD re-release) which is way better than the version on Double Plaidinum (that album is bad, lots of the guys in the band changed, a session guitarist who never played with them live...that strange production).

You cut me off...I cut you...down...down..

This is literally reminding me of when I still lived with my mom, which I did for a good while because she specifically bought a house where I could walk to college from and save tons of money. Miscommunication at its worst, especially her taking offense when I was agreeing with her...couldn't be me I guess, the way I express myself, she strangely never comprehended.

This is about all kinds of two-way verbally abusive relationships and it can and does make me feel sad sometimes, so they got it right.

Bad Religion – Better Off Dead Lyrics 7 years ago
This song came out in 1994...I don't know if it was written after Kurt Cobain killed himself (or we were told he did, anyway, what matters is the main narrative most people believe...also the series of suicides when he died by punk kids that lasted more than a year. It doesn't have to mention him, but No One by Lagwagon also came out in 1994 and it is indeed Cobain's death and other similar people's death.

This is one of the most beautiful melody out there, the bass is recorded in a really neat way throughout the whole album, mixed by Andy Wallace...that guy mixed classics by the dozens, Stranger Than Fiction (the album this is on), Nevermind in 1991, Slayer's Seasons In The Abyss in 1990.

This atheist when in a moment of weakness or crisis finds himself singing and crying to this song and the one before it "The Day The Earth Stood Stall".

BR created melodic hardcore and almost only them make it work when they go for songs like this. Another I find that hits hard inside is "Cease" amongst many others.

@[ShesMyAlcatraz:15247] Some albums are similar to others, but most have their own touch, Stranger Than Fiction had an amazing production (Andy Wallace is a god, so many records in my top 50 were mixed by him). Jay's bass is very audible and you see that in some albums where not as present in the mix, that he's a really good bassist.

@[licka6:13736] No its about our ancestors, far away back then ancestors our an an ancestors killed even more native americans in total compared to the Israelis, they also seem to have forgotten some of their grandparents suffered, except for like the 40-50% of Israelis who are really Lithuanians, Russians, Ukrainians, Moldavians, Poland. Their ancestors were also guilty of a litany of crimes against humanity when such things didn't exist and jews integrated the society they were in. The brown skinned jews are the same semites as my jewish friend who's dad's born in Morocco. would say, there's only 20% of us in Israel, and the Ashkenazis (white jews) are starting to implement a kind of caste system for even other jews, not mentioning what happens of Arabs with are actually Israeli citizens, his dad told me a lot of things about the boats full of jews coming from greece to the British Palestinian Mandate

Saying that once they exterminated the palestinians, only then will they stop their lust for killing so they can relax in cafés and be just like Americans, "a myth of an empty land, a conquest so complete". It's one of those gems of the slow songs they don't write all that much, it'll be nice to hear Sulynn do the backups they never bothered with before because it's Chris's voice doing the harmony to Chris' voice in the pre-choruses..

@[skunkbythebrook:6314] Selling shoes for venture capitalists....Fat Mike with his takeover of the Vans tour and how shittier it has gotten since it was just about good melodic hardcore punk and punk rock bands and pro skaters. The skaters are long gone, the venture capitalist is George Soros who gave Fat Mike loads of money to make the Rock Against Bush comps..which led to Rock For Sustainable Capitalism after another silent lyric was added to their contribution to Vol.1, "Bullshit Politicians" saying "Not brought to you by George Soros" which Fat Mike had to take out the comp, although not happily, he had to bend over and work with the system he supposedly wants to smash. NOFX themselves are great and it's great how they helped Propagandhi and a few other of the original Fat bands, Lagwagon, No Use For A Name (although after Making Friends, they got boring, way too much change in the rosters, which started after original bassist (and probably the guy that made the band awesome the most) Steve Papoutsis went to work for Sega and then Electronic Arts after Leche Con Carne's final tour. After that it was rotating musicians around Tony Sly who should maybe even have changed the name of the band after Making Friends...not that he was selling out, just not being NUFAN anymore...Lagwagon stayed true, because Joey does his solo guitar artist thing as a separate project. Strung Out got much better with time apparently, which I'd be interested in hearing, I got all their albums, but the one I possess "for real" was a waste except for Bring Out Your Dead, that song's amazing. Just all to say, Fat like Epitaph were started as small anti-MTV labels and pretty much stayed that way, although Epitaph let bands more control over how they could make videos and such. But if one looks at the list of Epitaph releases, much more impressive than Fat...since it exists since '82. I rather dislike most Fat Wreck bands of the 90's other than these 4 bands I mentioned, the first 4 bands they released, I think.

@[anderspa:6313] Better explained than Chris would bother to, lol. Good job. Although Chris loves Slapshot, and that's the band fronted by Choke, from Negative FX even before the first Slapshot EP (which was in 1985). I don't think he dislikes Boston hardcore, he enjoys some Converge, Punch and also Slapshot obviously, those are the ones I know for sure....notice how they're not the typical overly straight edge bands, Slapshot since 1993 has only had Choke himself straight edge...and that guy is "more fucked up than you'll ever be." Look at the video for I Told You So, haha, one of a kind.

@[m:6311].k. The liner notes to Where Quality Is Job #1 are hilarious, although it seems I have only one of the 2 folded cardboard inserts...was like that when I bought it, way back in 1999 I read the other as it was scanned and on a geocities fan site.

Man geocities fan site. Those were the best. I had one for the band F.Y.P, with a fitting, to me at least, chalkboard layout and had lyrics to all songs, tabs, and yes, the Incomplete Crap Vol.1 songs in the correct order. Although even by '99, it was too late to win the little contest inside of the cd booklet lol. I'm not even sure if F.Y.P were serious about any prize at all.

The inserts of HTCE and the How to Clean A Couple Things 7" are pretty hilarious on their own right. I was massively surprised by the one in Less Talk, More Rock that's for certain lol, but I appreciated it just as much.

@[jerrylives:6310] Yep.

I love the jabs at Straight Edge used as a religion/cult like thing especially then in the late 90's/early 2000's, and also the jabs at what the mainstream perceived as "heavy music". After Nirvana died, The Offspring and Bad Religion are almost the only bands that were allowed to have political lyrics, and then the first major label release by the offspring "Ixnay" is pretty good, but since its first single was All I Want...they later decided to make 3/4 of a real Offspring album and have those obvious deviations as singles in all their following releases from 98 and on. Although Hammerhead was the opposite, the album it's on is totally tame other than for that single and a couple other songs, sounds nothing like the anger and nihilism displayed on Smash.

So yeah, fed on Korn, Eminems and Bizkits. The bands and rappers themselves were Weird Al Yankovic parodies, although Eminem was kinda legit in his thing in the first few things he did, what wins unfortunately is what Chris sing-lists at the end....

Except that in the 90's it was about accepting homosexuality and bisexuality (mostly for men when the latter is considered), now freaks and people with mental disease (body dysmorphia and such). A man being turned into a "woman" is just being enabled by their doctor for the $$$. To make a false vagina they use parts of one's asshole and create a crack where parts of it has penis tissue inserted inside. These people cannot have orgasms, or have babies and often their surgery turns into a horrendous slit years later. It shouldn't be encouraged and the same difference applies to who can own lethal weapons.
