As with almost all Mountain Goats songs, people tend to over-analyze I think that's the point though, to get your own idea of what the meaning of the song is. I always try to take their lyrics in a literal sense and so to me this song is about him spending time with a girl (as children, presumably), stealing candy with her and then kissing her. He then realizes that in a forseeable future, she will be out of his life (moving away to another town or something) and he knows that he will cherish this moment they're having forever |
