| Having read some of the comments I feel like this song is not only about an ex/ and or ex-lover or affair he had but also that she is the type of person who stalks him and keeps his photos or his personal things maybe why he says "stop taking all of my things!" because she literally was obsessed with him to the point she took his things without his knowledge maybe and he has to go and take them away from her because it makes him sick to think of how she might use them. So in general either an ex, or an affair, that turned out to be wacko. In another way though it is a little worrying for him because he still feels attracted to this person for whatever reason probably more sexual and/or physical than anything else and that's why on video he looks at the camera like he's confussed and wants to convince himself that it's impossible he likes someone like that or wants to know why he's even attracted to this person because to him he/she is sick and quite literally crazy about him. | |

I think this relates to at least 3 subjects: 1st one being someone who is a star or an artist, someone famous who cannot escape the public eye; they feel under a lot of pressure from society or the moral code and also they are told they are wasting their life by not taking enough advantage of their looks as it is expressed on this line: "Do the people whisper 'bout you on the train like me? Saying that you shouldn't waste your pretty face like me?" and also this one "You can't wake up, this is not a dream - basically refering to the life they live as a star, "You're part of a machine, you are not a human being", the machine being part of the media, with their "face" all made up, living on a screen" 2nd one is someone who lives in a city under lots of stress and has some sort of mental disorder a "flaw in her code" because of this disease *the voices that speak in her head won't leave her alone*, 3rd focused on the modern type of life (living on the screen with the social media, again related to the being known by everyone, the voices that speak the people judging her. Just my take on it :) |

| I feel like this song is about being racist to people. Also being judgemental to people who think different from you. It's about people who have information and knowledge but use it in the wrong way and they want someone to save them they want someone to tell them what to do to do things right so that other people will accept their ways of thinking. Someone who follows their parents ideals and thoughts, the reference to Americans because they are very much always looking the same acting/thinking. That's what I always get from this song. | |

| I agree with your representation I can imagine though something also like the people who used to have to kill those that were sentenced to death. It's like the person goes away and then comes back to find out that people are still the same as he/she left them and they are corrupted inside so that's where the reference to the sins comes from. | I really like this song the feeling of easiness besides the sort of "doom" lyrics, it's the idea that you are going to be ok even if the world around you falls down and the empire comes crashing down. I think the first part is about music is all around you and there is beauty all around you as well, like it can soothe your soul, what the earth offers you that is beautiful and majestic, everyone struggles through life but everyone's praying for a better tomorrow. It's like forget about your troubles and leave the shadows behind you and just enjoy yourself and life. But it feels a little contradictory, sort of like one voice is saying to be ahppy and not worry about anything and the other is singing the exact opposite, to realize what you're doing, to pay attention, the little feet working the machine, we all have dreams we all want to achieve our goals but in the end a lot of people don't do it "in plastic fall" like it's all fake. We are all part of a society but that doesn't mean we all matter to it. The moon is like the hope or the light in the darkness? That's how I see it but it might just be about being drunk who knows :P | |

I love this song I think it's about overprotective parents trying to keep their children "asleep" and safe from the world around them the person speaking is like the presenter of a tv commercial or something similar trying to advertise why it's good to keep them in a comma: "life is hard for kids today they have to program everything dude, they have to use computers just to sing" - sometimes they don't have real talent but their parents want them to be stars so they make them be like robots programming computers to sing for them cause they can't really do it by themselves, or have no creativity or abilities. They need computers for everything not just singing, is what I feel about the last verse that they can't do anything by themselves anymore. "if you keep them dosed on soma you can spare them all their pain keep your children in a coma and stay sane" - give them drugs to keep them sane I think this part is pretty obvious, like instead of dealing with misbehaviour from children give them drugs to dumb them out of the world so they don't have to deal with their pain or reality for that matter, you stay sane cause you don't have to deal with their problems either or give them any advice as a parent, instead they go to psychologists or someone else to take care of them and possibly will drug them up. "you can't let them go to school for fear of bullying little beasts and you can't take them to church for fear of priests you can never really know-ma if there motives remain pure keep your children in a coma and be sure" - don't let them go to school cause bullies will get them and you're being overprotective not letting them defend for themselves. you never know if the priests motives are pure so you can't trust your priests either rather keep them safe and be sure they won't get hurt. "all that background radiation oil companies run bad party politics amuck good girls gone bad they would just get melanoma if they surfed in see-through jeans keep your children in a coma through their teens little Caleb and Valoma would be drugged up anyway keep your coma starting today - they'll get skin cancer if you let them out in the sun, they're gonna turn into hookers, prostitutues, whores if they wear see through jeans, and probably even do drugs. I feel very strongly for the music video specially the part where he's eating the other animal's skin like either making them a part of himself or as a form of sin? Like eating other people up I guess or betraying your own in some way. I'm not really very sure about these lyrics though the music is impressive and the band I love but I could talk and talk about possible meanings with no answer I think this song is marvelous :), also because I feel it can have multiple meanings, eventhough if you just read the lyrics it does sound more "romantic" in a way I feel it's still more deep than that, like having to do with death also because of the music video, you can clearly see a lot of dead animals, the ocean part of the lyrics makes me think of someone crying for another person that left the world, or their world. Also the reference to apples in the summer, then a green apple tree, going through the stages of birth, life, death... Well that's what I think. |

The first part of the lyrics to me is talking more about consumerism and the modern era we live in, we give in to “false gods” that’s mostly what I get from it, “when your dreams all fail and the ones we hail are the worst”, we want material things or things that are just not in tune with who we are or what we should be doing to ‘help’ the world so to speak. “I wanna hide the truth I wanna shelter you But with the beast inside There’s nowhere we can hide No matter what we breed We still are made of greed This is my kingdom come This is my kingdom come” This part pretty much explains itself, wanna hide the truth, you don’t want your children to see the world we have created, we want or try to shelter them in dreams of happiness or a beautiful and harmonious world that doesn’t exist. Take a look at the beast inside part and the “we still are made of greed”, we always want more and more than what we need to survive, to live. I’m surprised not many people are talking about the greedy part and the demons hiding inside part :s “They say it's what you make I say it's up to fate It's woven in my soul I need to let you go Your eyes, they shine so bright I wanna save that light I can't escape this now Unless you show me how” This part gives it a more ‘romantic’ feeling to it, like taking about a possible lover/partner, or maybe again about children,son,daughter, hoping that the future of those relationships will get them out of that greed world that we live in or make it a better place to live in. They wanna save that light and not get involved with those persons too much to not make them like they are now, full of those demons inside? Well that’s my take on it :P |

In general I think this song is obviously making a reference to a rennaissance man as the definition puts it to: a polymath, a person whose expertise spans a significant number of different subject areas. So sort of making a reference how guys or men in general nowadays want their girls to do everything, to be perfect in every sense, to be a jack of all trades. It also reminds me of one time I was talking to a friend saying how feminine aspects in society are seen now as weak. That’s mostly how I see it so women are supposed to do now many things, and also have certain specific careers or ideal jobs for “women” related tasks, well that’s how I see this song in general. It also depicts the typical housewife: “I can be an engine buzzing like a bee, I'm a real independent doing the laundry and planning for the future it's the nature of a renaissance girl” Also “I can be an engine” as if women were robots supposed to make everything perfect. Just reminds me of the typical housewife and a bit about chauvinism too: “I can be your darling cooking you dinner and soothing your heartache Having three kids and still remain a virgin It's my version of a renaissance girl” How some men want their girls to be virgins or wait til they get married and it’s not seen as bad when a guy is not a virgin before they marry but for a girl it’s different so sometimes they don’t talk about it as openly or is frowned upon by society. It’s like some girls even believe this “made up fantasy” and they want to live up to that expectation of a “perfect wife, woman, girlfriend”, an all around ideal of a perfect woman in general. Have 3 kids and still be faithful even if they don't love their husbands or never even think about divorce at all because that's just "wrong". "Lift me lift me up when the air is thin and my mind will take off Pull me pull me down when my love is pure and I feel alright now"< this I think isn't correct. This reminds me more like when you are in love with a guy that sees the world in that closed off way like women are weaker and men are stronger type of reasoning so they give you hopes of love or whatever then they make up again this “fantasy” sort of even Disney type world where you will live happily ever after, reason why “the air is thin”, and her mind “takes off”, but reality is very different. The second part I think should be “My feet are on the ground”, but I’m not sure I could be wrong, if it isss that way though it’s like “pull me down”, how she does in the video like pulling her ponytail, reminds me of those men also that are possessive over girls like during intimacy or whatever and they try to make you feel inferior, maybe not in that sense as to the intimacy so much but the reference is made possibly to the making you feel bad after you’ve loved them a lot eventhough you are realistic with your loving them they try to pull you down or make you feel worthless maybe like pull you back on the ground after they give you wings to fly so to speak? “I can be an artist sculpting your face like you always wanted Making you believe it's just how I saw it it's logic for a renaissance girl” – Like tell him everything he wants to hear and make him feel good eventhough you might think different just because you don’t want to be made feel bad or be treated badly or the guy to get angry in some way. I can be impressed by all the things you know' I'm fan I'm obsessed now I'm in your I drive in your fast car it's mastered by a renaissance girl - Same as up there like be impressed by those type of guys that think they know it all and just want you to be obsessed with them or their “intelligence” sometimes. Like they want to feel better, superior, again when she says renaissance girl is like she has to know it all as well and be perfect otherwise the guy might be uninterested or treat her badly if she doesn’t put up with the ideal woman he wants, or the facade. Also of course… guys love cars XD and girls must KNIT SWEATERS…that part is off from the lyrics it should read: “I’m a fan I’m obsessed now knitting you a sweater while you drive in your fast car” Also a reference to the “sweet” girl that can’t deal with cars or heavy “manly” things and must not like them she must like knitting sweaters, and sweet and cute and cuddly things :P HERE ANOTHER MISTAKE I’ll lose my money you can be my backbone” – meaning the typical girl who doesn’t have to work cause the guy will provide for her even if she loses her job or whatever she doesn’t care cause the guy can be her backbone. I call you honey you can cry on my shoulder Let it all breath, I got a degree in psychology”- I think this refers more to the sort of “weak” guy so to speak like he goes to her for emotional support and help and expects her to do everything for him and know how he feels all the time when he’s feeling sad or maybe even read his mind and know why he’s feeling in which way and what to do to help him as if she were a psychologist. Another take I have on that one last part is like this: I'll lose my money you can be my backbone, I'll call you honey you can cry on my shoulder. This can apply to both men and women maybe like a guy can also do that and just call them honey and want them to be all starry eyed cause they're nice to them even if they treat them badly or live off them or expect them to solve everything again making reference to the "rennaissance girl", an ideal perfect lover/woman. In general I think the lyrics are a bit off here just a few things that should be checked. |

to me this song feels like when you're with someone that you can just go crazy with, not just romantically speaking but more like a friend and you can just talk about whatever and even sound a little nuts, forget about troubles of daily life. Or like when you're being creative about something and you're too enclosed in following the rules to what you're doing that you forget to let go, so the song is sort of encouraging you to let go of those strict thoughts and just loose yourself for a while? Well that's my take on it lol hope I didn't read too much into it :P |
