Jonathan Coulton – Shop Vac Lyrics 11 years ago
The funny thing about that voice is that it's a radio broadcast which seems to refer to the person from whose perspective the song is written. "A 49-year-old unidentified man went berserk last night, opening fire with a 12 gauge shotgun on a crowded downtown restaurant." It is presumable this man was the narrator or someone similarly afflicted.

Rilo Kiley – A Better Son/Daughter Lyrics 11 years ago
While I have never experienced it myself, I was in a relationship with a girl who had manic-depression for nearly two-and-a-half years, and I've done a lot of research on it. I knew I couldn't have been the only one finding the similarities in this song, and it's good to know others found them too.

Ludo – Love Me Dead Lyrics 12 years ago
i don't think it sounds like kismesitude, kismesitude implies there's some kind of potent rivalry, but this seems more like a hopeless romantic enthralled and infatuated with a shallow, vapid, but supposedly beautiful person.

My Chemical Romance – I'm Not Okay (I Promise) Lyrics 12 years ago
This was my absolute favorite song when I was in high school, because I was living it. I felt miserable and like I was eking out a meager existence. I was infatuated with a girl who never returned my affection. She would tell me that she envied my being single, and I wanted to explain to her the soul-crushing loneliness I felt. Instead, however, I kept my composure and feigned contentedness, but I was not okay.

I don't speak to her anymore, I have dropped out of high school, and those days are far in the past. While my future may be uncertain, I can say without a doubt that I am much better off today than I was then.

In the music video, I believe that when Gerard is cut off by the beginning of the song, he is about to say, "I just want to live." When you're in high school, it sometimes seems like all you can do just to survive.

My Chemical Romance – Drowning Lessons Lyrics 12 years ago
To me, this song has always been narrated by someone who is in love with an unfaithful woman.

"Without a sound I took her down"

In my theory, this is a hint at their love affair in which there seems to be some unspoken connection between the two.

"Imaginary wedding gown, That you can't wear in front of me"

The woman is in love with someone else and aspires to marry them, and while the narrator knows this, to be reminded of it will only incite a jealous rage.

"A kiss goodbye, your twisted shell"

I believe this is where we see a hint of anger towards the unfaithful lover. Once the affair's thrill simmers down, he begins to see the damaged husk or "shell" of her broken morality and holds some disdain against her for causing the temptation and inner strife he is experiencing.

"Lets say goodbye, the hundreth time, And then tomorrow we'll do it again"

Clearly, the lover has tried to leave her infidelity behind many times before but can't seem to stay away from the narrator, and he is fully aware this cycle will not end soon.

"I dragged her down I put her out, And back there I left her where no one could see, And lifeless cold into this well, I stared as this moment was held for me"

At first glance, this part appears to be describing a murder, but I believe it may actually be a sudden dawning of depression and shame within the narrator after yet another encounter with his lover.

"And I'll keep on making more, Just to prove that I adore, Every inch of sanity"

To me, this seems to be saying that the narrator believes that his jealousy is beginning to wear upon his mental state.

"These hands stained red, From the times that I've killed you and then"

Here we see that the narrator tries desperately to detach himself from his lover and stay away from her.

"We can wash down this engagement ring, With poison and kerosene"

I believe the "poison and kerosene" is not literal but instead a reference to drugs and/or alcohol, which are used in excess to make the narrator forget or let go of the guilt and shame he feels.

"Without, without a sound, And I wish you away"

Though he may not express it to anyone, the narrator does have a deep desire to be a good and moral person and hopes for his temptations to be taken away so that he can.
