| Brand New – The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot Lyrics | 6 years ago |
|
The title, "The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot," itself means that the "boy" could have hurt the friend or old lover but instead he would rather help them get over him, and perhaps hurting himself in the process. Summary: This song is about two friends or old lovers who are separated because the boy made a mistake, or their relationship was simply not for him anymore, or that he treated them very badly during the time they were together-- in the perspective of the "boy." The other person was hurt and heartbroken him and the situation that caused the separation, leaving behind bad blood. The boy is very much a compassionate person, he reassures the person that they still mean a lot to him, and that he cares about them very much still, and that they still occupy his mind, but he wants to leave without them being so hurt or regretful. He thinks that things will even out if they hurt him themselves by venting out their anger or by destroying him. However, they are soft and forgive him and/or are more mature about it, and so, all these things he wants them to do to him, are his own self-destructive, projecting words towards his ashamed self. ***** Lyrics w/ Meanings***** If it makes you less sad, I will die by your hand (He is a selfless person, he wants only to satisfy their anger.) I hope you find out what you want I already know what I am (The person was lost when they were with him, he was not. The person did not take the boy for who he was, and if they did, they didn't know what they were in for.) And if it makes you less sad, we'll start talking again And you can tell me how vile I already know that I am (He knows he is a terrible person, and he wants the person to tell him what he thinks or knows they think of him.) I'll grow old and start acting my age (He acknowledges that he is very immature, regarding himself, his ego, and how he manages relationships.) I'll be a brand new day in a life that you hate (He will become a better person, but he expects the person to still hate what he does in his life because they "hate" him for what he's done and they will cringe at the thought of thinking about how his life is doing, good or bad, because they're just that resentful out of hurt towards him.) A crown of gold (The boy is talking about himself. Looking back at the line, "I already know what I am," he is saying that he knows exactly who he is and feels golden) A heart that's harder than stone (He has a hard time being loving.) And it hurts a whole lot, but it's missed when it's gone (His egotistical personality hurts the person, but regardless, they miss him.) Call me a safe bet I'm betting I'm not (He makes it easy to believe you can trust and rely on him because he is there for people and gives them great care and love, but he is aware of his toxic parts and he is sure he wouldn't be the best lover or friend.) I'm glad that you can forgive I'm only hoping as time goes, you can forget If it makes you less sad, I'll move out of the state You can keep to yourself I'll keep out of your way (This is parallel to the former verses; instead of having the person shun him directly, he wants them to forget all about him. The song is getting softer as it goes on.) And if it makes you less sad, I'll take your pictures all down Every picture you paint, I will paint myself out (The person was attached to him, and still continues to think of him in their life, and so he wants to be gone completely from them for the sake of their own.) It's cold as a tomb, and it's dark in your room when I sneak to your bed to pour salt in your wounds (The person is experiencing heartbreak in their bed at night, their reoccurring thoughts of him hurts them after the initial separation. So call it quits or get a grip. Say you wanted a solution You just wanted to be missed (Talking about suicide.) You are calm and reposed Let your beauty unfold (He thinks that the fact that they are so strong about it and remain their composure is absolutely beautiful.) Pale white, like the skin stretched over your bones (They are a being of light.) Spring keeps you ever close (They are strong, they are close to life becoming well for them, blooming like spring.) You are second hand smoke (They are like a drug when they are in the room; he cannot avoid how influenced he is by them, like how people cannot avoid being damaged by second-hand cigarette smoke, but in a positive way.) You are so fragile and thin (He admires them for being strong even though they are sensitive.) Standing trial for your sins (They own up to their own mistakes.) Holding onto yourself the best you can (They are always being hurt, yet they try so hard to not become cold-hearted like most people; this line can also mean that they have composure.) You are the smell before rain (He thinks of them before he cries.) You are the blood in my veins |

| Bring Me the Horizon – And the Snakes Start to Sing Lyrics | 11 years ago |

I've lost a part of me Tell your friends to sharpen their teeth (the person he's talking about's friends are torturing him just like the person he's talking about) There's a few quid to be made (betting on how long he can last) And my soul's a sorry state So come on down, you're empty lovers. (he's telling "them" to just get it over with and come at him) Wolves come out of the woodwork (.. wolves as a metaphor for secrets?) And the snakes start to sing. (secrets getting out) Do you feel the chair, Clawing at the back of your neck? (you know how you feel most secure when your back is leaning against something? basically everyone is out to get him and he feels trapped) And start to spell, Did you really think that you could fix me? We'll sell your bones for another roll. (this is going out to this line and the two other lines below this; the "friends" and the person he's talking about in this song are talking, they're taunting him) We'll sharpen your teeth. Tell yourself that it's just business. (the friends could care less) Wolves come out of the woodwork. Leeches come from out of the dirt. Rats come out of the holes they call home, And I fall apart. And the snakes start to sing. Don't say I'm better off dead, Cause heaven's full and hell won't have me. Won't you make some room in your bed? Well you could lock me up in your heart, And throw away the key. Won't you take me out of my head? (he wants the person he's talking about to make him feel free, the person he's talking about is an escape for him. he just wants to be with them forever) I'm just a would've been, could've been, Should've been, never was and never ever will be. (he's telling himself/the friends that he's a complete failure) We'll sharpen your teeth. Tell yourself that it's just business. Would've been, could've been, Should've been, never was, and never ever will be. Wolves come out of the woodwork, And the snakes start to sing. Wolves come out of the woodwork. Leeches come from out of the dirt. Rats come out of the holes they call home, And I fall apart. And the snakes start to sing. If you can't soar with the eagles Then don't fly with the flock. (im not exactly sure about these two, but im guessing that if you feel like you arent good enough, you probably aren't and you shouldn't force yourself to be with people who make you feel you aren't good enough) Are you still getting high? (mildly guessing: getting high was something they did together) Did you catch your own reflection, In the knife my mother held? (this is my own personal story, read to the end if you just wanna skip my tiny ranting: my mother got incredibly frustrated and stressed out since she was working so hard to pay for my "problems" [medical bills, therapy appointments, ER bills, not to mention keeping the family content], but i never really opened up to her but it was that person who did this to me - so basically his mother was abusive or had sort of the same problem as mine, and the person the song's about is to blame) Or the hell in my father's eyes? (again, another personal-ish story: my father was and still is an incredibly sensitive person, he basically couldn't take the fact that i never loved my family and it was hell for him) If you can't soar with the eagles Then don't fly with the flock. Are you still getting by? (the person he's talking about had problems and he helped them with their problems) Was I your knight in shining armor? The apple of your eye? Or just a step to climb? (was he really any help to the person or did the person really even cared about him?) If you can't soar with the eagles Then don't fly with the flock. Are you still getting high? Did you catch your own reflection In the knife my mother held? Or the hell in my father's eyes? If you can't soar with the eagles, Then don't fly with the flock. Are you still getting by? Was I your knight in shining armor? Or the apple of your eye? Or just a step, a fucking step to climb\ ------ This is only my own interpretation and should only give you an idea if you truly do not understand what this song means - every song has a different meaning to everyone. |

He's talking about a broken relationship/friendship. "I hope you find out what you want. I already know what I am. " - he doesn't know what his friend wants and he already knows he's a terrible friend "I'll grow old and start acting my age. I'll be a brand new day in a life that you hate. " - he wasn't acting his age, and he's not saying he will right now since he knows himself, but when he grows older he'll start acting his age and be a brand new person but his past was kind of upsetting "A crown of gold. A heart that's harder than stone. And it hurts a whole lot, but it's missed when it's gone. " - he has fame and money, but what good is it for when he doesn't have this person? his heart can't be broken easily, but the person he's talking about broke it. the relationship/friendship was already hurtful, but he misses it anyway. "So call it quits or get a grip. Say you wanted a solution You just wanted to be missed. " - he still wants to win the fight, the person he's talking about was the one who "broke up" with him, thinking it might be the solution but he thinks they just wanted to be missed "Call me a safe bet. I'm betting I'm not. " - people think he's "safe" and reliable but he feels like he isn't "Pale white, like the skin stretched over your bones. Spring keeps you ever close. You are second hand smoke. You are so fragile and thin. Standing trial for your sins. Holding onto yourself the best you can. You are the smell before rain. You are the blood in my veins. " - he's describing them The rest of the lyrics are self explanatory, hope I helped. ^-^ |

| Mumford & Sons – Little Lion Man Lyrics | 11 years ago |

It's most likely about an egotistic father sharing his thoughts about himself. The times where he was talking to his son was the chorus, he was blaming himself for raising his son that way, hence "but it was not your fault but mine".. etc etc and the "now learn from your mother" - the father is getting fed up. And the rest basically describes what he thinks of himself, he admits that he is very prideful; "you'll never be what is in your heart" - he to become what he wanted to be "you're not as brave as you were from the start" - he was doing good at first, but lost himself "rate yourself and rake yourself" - his old self was constantly telling himself what a failure he is and tries to find different ways "take all the courage you have left on the problems that you made in your own head" - wastes precious energy on scenarios he madeup while overthinking and thinks the problems are so real he actually tries to do something about them "you know that you have seen this all before" - he knows what he's doing and he knows what he has to do but he just doesn't want to admit he's doing it until he wrote the song "You'll never settle any of your scores Your grace is wasted in your face, Your boldness stands alone among the wreck" - it's never good enough and he's wasting so much potential by doing the wrong things Hope this helped. ^-^ |

| A Day to Remember – If I Leave Lyrics | 11 years ago |

It's one of those songs that you have to go through what the song writer went through in order to understand it. It's basically about a close friend of his who he made a "forever friends" pact with but they don't talk the way they use to anymore, as if they were strangers. And he's someone who always knows what he's doing, he trusts his gut but he can never get it right when it comes to his friend. But if he left, his friend would be in misery because they still had a past together. And the bridge is saying that they still are close friends, they still have an amazingly strong bond, and they want each other to know that, but they're just not right for each other. Like you love someone but you have nothing in common with them or nothing to talk about. |

| Get Scared – Don't You Dare Forget the Sun Lyrics | 12 years ago |

Basically, the music video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5epT4GEfoOE) explains the second verse, and the song itself. The First Part: He's saying that you're doing something you know is wrong, but you do it anyway. You're all caught up in your confidence, but you're a total wreck. "You can dig so deep for scars, You never knew your mind was dark. Come on and breathe with me, oh! Breathe with me, oh!" You can mess up pretty bad, but it's okay. You look down on, me so casually, In everything I know. You look down on me, but not right on me. Is it plain to see, that life is trying me? Their families and strangers call you a "Whore", or whatever. ---- You can take this song in many different ways. I take it personally since it has a meaning to it which the music video doesn't give off, but that's just me. My personal meaning to it is self harm and suicide, and I honestly think that that's what the song is about since Joel Faviere's (singer) single songs are about it, and the band sings about it too, in every song, if you listen hard enough. |
