| Yeah, it is mainly about the touring life of a band. But am I crazy to think there's a little about the come-down from psychedelics? "Tired, but wiser for the time..." | |

To me, the key phrase in getting this whole song is: "And I know she's living there And she loves me to this day" The narrator hopes those lines are true, but is mistaken and naive, much like he is throughout the rest of the song... i.e. "and the women all were beautiful and the men stood straight and strong." Idealized and completely imaginary view of the world. And great song. |

| No argument that the song is about Smalley, but what makes the song great is that it isn't just about Smalley. It could have turned into just a story song about one guy (and yeah, the story's all there), but there's plenty of other stuff in here that keeps me coming back to it... The story of the starving artist just doing whatever he has to do in support of that art; the idea that feeling sorry for yourself is just a waste of time; and, of course: "some people stop living well before they die... ... and I got another show to do..." | |

| I love this song, but this is the second time I've heard this song and had to doublecheck whether this was a Lou Reed cover. | |
