| Imogen Heap – Getting Scared Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
This story I've always gotten from this song has kinda been about an abusive relationship. It's someone she knew well, and really loved at some point in her life. Most likely a childhood friend or a first love. But the relationship became toxic and abusive. Eventually she realized that this person had caused her so much pain, but only long after the fact. She comes back, unafraid of confrontation and ready to finally stand up for herself. |

| Tori Amos – Liquid Diamonds Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
I've always thought Liquid Diamonds was a metaphor for tears or water. The whole song has a really rich, underwater sound. It kinda sounds like she's sing to you. The water itself. |

| Jack Off Jill – When I Am Queen Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| Sometimes when you get caught up in self destruction, you get really entitled and angry. You feel justified in this anger, and it becomes really addictive and incredibly liberating to destroy yourselves while everyone stands and watches. It becomes kind of a performance. I think that's what this song is about. | |
| Jack Off Jill – Underjoyed Lyrics | 10 years ago |
|
Seems pretty straight forward. I think it's about the boredom and dissatisfaction that comes with depression. Nothing feels right, everything is boring and irritating. You feel empty and void of any real passion or interest. "An old friend convinced me that he was underjoyed" "He made a decision He jumped into the void" This line feels like a reference to suicide. A friend probably(?) I like how plain and mundane the song is, it definitely works with the theme of boredom and depression! haha. |

| Tori Amos – Parasol Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| This song reminds of how transcendent music can be. I'm a seveteen year old male, but I can still really connect to this song. Something about the image of the woman with the parasol in this Seurat's painting, so peaceful. That's what I think this song is about, finding peace within yourself, even when your world is spinning out of control. | |
| Tori Amos – Professional Widow Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| Everyone says this song is about Courtney Love. But I have a hard time believing Tori would so blatantly diss another woman, being the feminist is. | |
| Tori Amos – Black-Dove (January) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| "She has a January world" Dark and cold. Possibly about lonelyness and isolation. | |
| Fiona Apple – Periphery Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I feel like this song is about other peoples opinions. When people talk about you behind your back in a messy situation. She could confront them and get defensive or she could ignore them and let it go cause they aren't worth her time. The "periphery" are the people you see out of the corner of your eyes who only have negative things to say, but once you're with them face to face their fake. So in the end their never worth it. | |
| Alanis Morissette – The Couch Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| The style of writing is a 'stream of consciousness'. which means she basically wrote down whatever was on her mind at the time. Probably about sitting in a psychiatrists office talking about her father. I think it switches between her therapist, her father and her own thoughts. But its hard to tell. | |
| Tori Amos – Hotel Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| To me it seems like a one night stand gone wrong. She meets him in a Hotel, they sleep together, but he doesn't want to let her leave. He starts threatening her, and as she tries to escape he attacks her and she barely makes it out alive. "I'm still alive. I'm still alive. I'm still alive." | |
