An interesting take on this could be singing about the earth herself (as an entity). Something along the lines of humanity using up the earth, but she doesn't hate us. I don't know, something like that anyway |

Whilst the chorus of the song could be interpreted this way, the rest of the song doesn't seem to mesh with that. I suspect that when you first listened to the song it struck you that way, and the subsequent listening reinforced that view due to confirmation bias (i.e you looked for evidence to confirm your view). Not that there's anything wrong with the interpretation per se, just that it's somewhat imcomplete |

I always thought the line "White flames are burning flags we" was actually "White flames are burning brightly". Listening closely I can tell I was wrong. Who knew. |
