| The Raconteurs – Yellow Sun Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Yellow sun is shining in the afternoon I'd really like to tell you but I feel it's too soon My actions are dictated by the phase of the moon The phase of the moon The "yellow sun" is a metaphor for the girl's love for him, as he sees them to have more emotional value, while he sees his affection for her as being only physical "phases of the moon" refers to how his affections being calculated to get her into bed. Deep down he wants to tell her the truth, but doesn't want to break her heart, or give up the chance to sleep with her. The sun it isn't hiding when it sets on you It's not a coward like me and I know but it's true Waiting for the darkness now is all I can do It's all I can do The sun isn't hiding when it sets on you is referring to her getting more amorous as their date goes later into the evening. But, he thinks she is in love with him. He doesn't have the courage to tell her he doesn't have the emotional feelings because he doesn't want to pass up the chance to sleep with her. You're making me hungry But what's really funny's it's not sunny anymore After they have sex, he realizes that he does have feelings for her (or having sex with her has made him fall in love) but, now he realizes that the table is turned, because she never was in love him. she just wanted to get him in bed. And when I finally told you when the sun has gone You're laughing 'cause I thought I was the only one And the only thing that's left for me's the rising sun The rising sun he tells her everything about his intentions and comes clean, because he now wants to tell her that he has feelings for her. She knew his original intentions the whole time. Now all that is left for him is to tell her that he is in love with her. You're making me hungry, you're making me hungry But what's really funny's it's not sunny anymore He is falling in love with her, but.. now he realizes that she never actually loved him.... she just wanted to get it on, so the person who is really going to be heartbroken, is him. |

| Florence + the Machine – Remain Nameless Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This song is such a great example of Florence's lyrics having simple and profound meanings at the same time. I take this song in it's most simplest meaning, considering that the music is so representative of our most basic emotional/sexual needs. She is basically saying she doesn't care what anyone wants to label this affair as, she just wants to make it clear of what it is not. Also, she doesn't want to put a label on the relationship either ("remain nameless") because it would only lead to dissappointment/confusion/expectations. The relationship is "born from a big gray cloud, screaming out a love song" the cloud is emotional trauma from past experience from both people (a likely cuplrit of the individuals ending up in this circumstance) and "screaming out a love song" represents that they are romantics. later, in the lyrics, she sings "I know everybody lets you down, I'll do the same" again a reminder of being let down in past relationships and that if the other person expects a commitment, she will do the same. "Call me when you need me Call me anything you want Darling, believe me Nothing I haven't done before Call me when you need me, call me when you need me Call me when you need me Darling, believe me, darling, believe me Darling, believe me, darling believe me" Is just reinforcing her affirmation that she will be there, and there aren't any strings attached. "call me anything you want" is basically stating to the other person that they have free reign to make sense of it however they feel they need to. I think it is a really simple concept, however it is very complex when you think of it in the context of our social norms. I think relationships would start off better from honest one night stands than they would from all of the bullshit and lying that occurs when everyone is trying so hard to get somebody to like them. The first step would be to learn how to emotionally respond to the word "no", but I digress. |
