Yellow Sun Lyrics
Yellow sun is shining in the afternoon
I'd really like to tell you but I feel it's too soon
My actions are dictated by the phase of the moon
The phase of the moon
The sun it isn't hiding when it sets on you
It's not a coward like me and I know but it's true
Waiting for the darkness now is all I can do
It's all I can do
And if the sun should follow us into your room
Then the courage will be robbed from me to tell you the truth
The setting sun's the only thing that's shining on you
That's shining on you
You're making me hungry
But what's really funny's it's not sunny anymore
And when I finally told you when the sun has gone
You're laughing 'cause I thought I was the only one
And the only thing that's left for me's the rising sun
The rising sun
You're making hungry, you're making me hungry
But what's really funny's it's not sunny anymore
It's not sunny anymore, it's not sunny anymore, it's not sunny anymore....
I'd really like to tell you but I feel it's too soon
My actions are dictated by the phase of the moon
The phase of the moon
It's not a coward like me and I know but it's true
Waiting for the darkness now is all I can do
It's all I can do
Then the courage will be robbed from me to tell you the truth
The setting sun's the only thing that's shining on you
That's shining on you
But what's really funny's it's not sunny anymore
You're laughing 'cause I thought I was the only one
And the only thing that's left for me's the rising sun
The rising sun
But what's really funny's it's not sunny anymore

I was thinking it was about the guy being a werewolf. You know, his actions being dicated by the phases of the moon, and the whole "you're making me hungry, and it isn't sunny any more" thing.
This song is amazing, i love it. musically it's so 60s, so hippy, so cool, kinda remind me of the sillier Cream stuff. and lyrically, its just something that i, and i think a lot of people of a socially shy kind of persuasion will identify with a lot. It's about him wanting to reveal himself to someone, but not being able to, except maybe in some kind of closed, personal environment (maybe im interpretting it a bit literally), because of cowardice, or nerves, or whatever. i hope thats right.
i dont quite understand the line "the setting sun's the only thing that's shining on you" though. not sure i get what it could mean in the context...
this kind of reminds me of this ..friend i had, who said he only felt he could be serious and open with me when we were being 'intimate'. maybe that's what this is about a lil bit - he can't share how he feels about this girl unless it's dimly lit and theyre alone in her room. otherwise he just finds it hard to be serious?
I think that the "Sun" represents the guy's feelings for a girl. As the second line says, he wants too tell her, but he feels it's too soon. He also can't find the right way to express his feelings.
He states that the only thing left to do is wait for the darkness, meaning to simply wait for the feelings he has for the girl to simply pass.
When he says "You're making me hungry...But what's really funny is it's not sunny anymore" I think maybe the girl is expressing some sort of feelings towards him, but he is already "over her", but he hasn't told her that he is over her.
The fourth verse is after he tells her that he is over his feelings for her. They both realize that the feelings were fleeting. He realizes that all that can be done now is to wait for feelings to arise again, but not necissarily in the same place.
That is just my take on it...I could be completely wrong.
I thibk behle's on the right track..I think this song is about a vampire. "you're making me hungry" "the rising sun"..
alright, raconteurs people, its verse by verse meaning time again!
Yellow sun is shining in the afternoon I'd really like to tell you but I feel it's too soon My actions are dictated by the phase of the moon The phase of the moon
i guess the yellow sun is a metaphor for happy things hed like to tell the girl but he feels its too soon and the phase of the moon thing is a funny, cleverish way of saying that there is a pattern of what you have to do as a boyfriend, and when to say/do it
The sun it isn't hiding when it sets on you It's not a coward like me and I know but it's true Waiting for the darkness now is all I can do It's all I can do
he thinks the girl is a good person and that she brings 'sunshine' to his life but hes kind of a jerk ish person, so he gets into bad situations with her, and it seems to happen spontaneously too
And if the sun should follow us into your room Then the courage will be robbed from me to tell you the truth The setting sun's the only thing that's shining on you That's shining on you
teehee :) hes getting her into bed and then things change....drastically
You're making me hungry But what's really funny's it's not sunny anymore
making me hungry...for love! but its not exactly the best situation to be in at the moment
And when I finally told you when the sun has gone You're laughing 'cause I thought I was the only one And the only thing that's left for me's the rising sun The rising sun
hes talking to her and thinking about breaking up and hes surprised cuz she actually agrees that things arent going very well and he just wants some happiness back in the relationship
You're making hungry, you're making me hungry But what's really funny's it's not sunny anymore
It's not sunny anymore, it's not sunny anymore, it's not sunny anymore....
yep, he still wants love but i guess they broke up
sorry if im completely 100% off but thats what it says to me
maybe the werewolf idea is a hidden metaphor for a different side of him which reveals his "dark" desires
or then again maybe not, its generally about what big_nothing says
Its def about a guy who knows the relationship is over, but the sex is good so he cant end it.... and the vampire/werewolf thing is just a clever device to convey that message
Listening to this song, and taking note of jack white's songwriting (Although the core of the song was written by Benson for his solo album, they have very similar songwriting techniques), you'd have to admit that jack's stories within songs are often more complex than a "Guy breaks up with girl" situation. I think that there is definitely an "extra terrestrial" element to the song, most probably with vampires or werewolves. Although i haven't read into the particulars of the story too much, thats what i think.
