I am madly in love with this song. It is obviously about a couple's bond that is so tough and strong that everyone thinks they are "mad" as in crazy regarding their love but they stay together and love each other through all the fire. Beautiful song <3 |

I can relate to this song so much. I believe it is about having a personality disorder/anxiety/social issues and struggling with it everyday and how sometimes you have a good day. I feel the instrumental and vibe of the song reflect the calm feeling that you can sometimes experience when you have a good day despite all of the turmoil within yourself. |

Really. Honestly. Really? Are you a woman or a man? I doubt this song is alluding to when men beat women. No one will really ever no the true meaning except Gwen but as a strong female myself I feel this song is about the double standard that still exists in society regarding sexism. Even today with all the rights women have, it is still ingrained in us that we are supposed to find out "knight in shining armor", get married, have kids and live happily ever after. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with this, this stigma also creates a kind of "fear" within some women who want to diverge from this so called "right" path. Therefore as we can witness, Gwen has accomplished much more in her life than some Men have...she is a musician, fashion designer and a role model among other things. So please explain to me how this is about self pity? Ridiculous. |

I feel like many people go through this weird type of habit in life. I believe when you have gone through a lot of trauma/hard times then your brain changes and reacts to the trauma and gives you negative habits. Like these lyrics for example:
I walk alone
And you know
I've never felt at home
I'm so hard to please
And I have everything I need
You can have everything and your life can be perfect but since you have had past trauma you constantly seek out a problem or search for something that will cause the "illusion" to disintegrate. Basically you look for flaws and feel a sick feeling of comfort once you discover an issue or if you make one yourself.
One could take away from this song that Dave Gahan has been through a lot, if you have followed Depeche Mode and he is a recovering Heroin addict. This contributes to his unsettling feelings when everything is really just fine in his life. |
