I'll tell you exactly what this song is about. It's about a drug addict.Or a drunk, I guess. Love and hate, of course, are metaphors. Sadly, I've lived this story. Hate leaves, is reckless, drinking *the strongest stuff you can drink*. He runs out, and comes home weary and ashamed. Now, Love and Hate as metaphors are important here. Love, in this case, is essentially those things that heal, support, and hope. Hate is a negative force, serious [read: never showing any sense of joy], Hate is destructive, and weak. These properties are personified as a couple. Once he runs out of booze, he hits bottom, comes home, and says he's sorry. He's been gone for so long, which doesn't literally mean he's left - he's not been himself since he was an addict. The damage and destruction Hate causes is of no consequence to Love. So love says "I'm your's and that it, whatever" [It doesn't matter, I'm always here with you] Hate says "I should not have been gone for so long" [He should not have abused alcohol or whatever it was] He then says "I'm yours and that's it, forever you're mine and that's it, forever" In his total vulnerability, he surrenders and commits himself Love, who was *already* committed to Hate regardless of what he's done. The ending implies healing. The song gives me goosebumps. |

I disagree. Everyone knows Ogre was outspoken about animal rights. I am an activist myself, so I really get this one. I strongly believe it is about the hopeless feeling we all get when we realize we aren't getting very far with peaceful protest. I'm also a trained linguist, some of the lyrics are wrong. It's wasted muse, that's all they see blue hot blood, guilt etc etc and also, he mentions, quite clearly, animal testing. sloppy, mincing, eye-dropping biopsy. companies like johnson and johnson often burn animal's eye to test their products. also, dog's body comatose, torchlight roast disinterest etc the military used to do tests where they would (really) burn dogs alive to test flamethrowers, the dogs did eventually lose consciousness. Nobody cares about these things, and if people knew what we did to our animals, they would be shocked. blue is someone who is discouraged. hence, 'blue'. why call at all, blue? hot lines eventual decline nobody is listening but, with the right attitude, you will succeed blue resent that discontent etc people don't even think about these things even though they made entire albums about animal rights. It is very important to Ogre. |
