I think this song is about self loathing and hatred: ------------------------------------------------------------------ I'm standing alone on the cliffs of the world No one ever tends to me Sitting alone, covered in rays Some things are so my mind can breath ---------------------------- He feels as though no one cares about what he goes through or who he is, but he doesn't care, he doesn't mind. When he hurts, he feels no one understands or bothers to try and help him through his pain. ------------------------------------------------------ Waiting is hard, fucking takes so long Draped in sun, hands in sand Earth acid cleanses me, cleanses me clean But the world it never comes ----------------------------------------------- Waiting for someone that will never come, he feels it's better if he sticks to himself because no one else or "the world" will ever come to understand him. ---------------------------------- It never comes It never comes It never comes I lay on my side in the edge of the room She never expects anything from me When all the days, the days of the year I know I miss that part of me ----------------------------------------------- "She" could be representative of women in general. He's never come to find a woman that see's anything in him, so he doesn't bother, he just lays on his side and stays alone. ---------------------------------------- |

| Eagles of Death Metal – Solo Flights Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
I actually think it's about feeling the empty and shallowness of sleeping around with others.Feeling as though one can never maintain a true emotional connection because of how easy it is for them to use others. This person feels enraged or sad because of this, but they can't stop sleeping around. "You don't get it You don't get it No one gets to love me!" Refers to the last line i said. "Nobody does me like I do I'm just a one man operation Beg me to show you the ropes Well I can't get no vacuumication" No one understands him except for himself. Some people wish they could be like that as though they'd beg him, but he realizes that it's like a black hole that sucks you dry. "So tired of fooling around In just a one way conversation What the stitch's I scratch what itches Bravo self-gratification" He's tired of sleeping around to satisfy himself, but feels as though he needs to prove something to himself. He also see's sex as an "Itch" that needs to be scratched. Even the title implies this meaning. Solo meaning he's alone and flights meaning sex. |

| Nine Inch Nails – The Hand That Feeds Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| This song is a critique of religion. Reznor has shown to be against the idea numerous times and looking at the lyrics its very obvious that's what he's talking about. "The hand that feeds" is god or merely to concept of god. People who prey are told how to live, act, and think according to a specific set of rules, so he's telling them to live stand out and lead rather than follow. . Lyrics like "will you stay down on your knee's" references praying. Lyrics like "And behind it all is a price to be paid for the blood, which we dine" could reference either jesus sacrificing himself on the cross (As a common practice with Catholicism during mass is to drink his blood in the form of wine.) or the many lives taken during events such as the crusades. | |
| Sound City Players – Mantra Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I think this song is about finding your place in the world, almost as though it's a battle of 2 perspectives. Dave is singing about realizing what's around you, not to idealize and fantasize about things that won't happen and to accept what you really are, Trent comes in later bringing forth another perspective, to stay living in a dream. For whatever reason, perhaps not wanting to grow up or move on in life, they refuse to see past the moment at hand or their state of mind. To sum up, Dave is telling the person to move on with whatever has happened and that fre, Trent is singing about reflection. "Give up the wish let go of the dream Barricade, fantasy" Staying in the moment forever prevents you moving forward. "You'll open up your eyes and realize How you fit in the wild" Telling him to learn his place. However Dave's perspective is flawed, lines like "Burn the dogma, let the fire Overtake the desire to define" and "A lion is a lion, no apologies And a leash is a leech" say that he shouldn't follow his dreams or try to stand out. Eventually the two characters argue. It culminates in a battle of perspectives, with Trent's character explaining how much it means to him as well as how he intends to keep it, with Dave's telling him how it will eventually over take him and become bad for him. He compares the desire to stick in the moment and fantasize as being similar to a monster: "An idea (I will find a way...) Like a verb Like an outrage (To keep this moment for myself) Like a sunrise Like a monster (I will find a way...) Like a monster Like a mantra Like a mantra" |

I don't think this song is about sex, i think it's about growing up in a world that's pretty superficial and learning to accept who you are. As cliche as it sounds. This last verse sums it up basically: "I know it hurts. It hurts to be young. Metamorphosis is pain, I know. I said it hurts to be young. Gotta learn every goddamn thing. You gotta hack your way through, And realize, it's almost entirely lies. But then you'll begin to smile. Smile for me, real. Wide. Then you accept what you are. The transforming is done. You've become, absorbed into, and you know. I think I know what to do." |

I honestly buy that this song is about drugs. Someone justifies their addiction and recalls their experience, observe: ________________________________ It's the cruelest joke to play I'm so high I run in place ___________________ Possibly someone getting wrapped up in the addiction, at first it might have just been for fun or a "Joke" that turned out to be cruel after the negative aspects come along such as addiction. "I'm so high i run in place" talks about the person getting no where with it, he can't escape the addiction or "high" so whenever he tries to move away from it, it's like he's running in the air. Very clever use of a lyric. __________________________ Only a line we separate So [Chorus] I keep on playing our favorite song I turn it up while you're gone It's all I've got when you're in my head When you're in my head, so I need it ______________________ The song refers to the drug. He keeps taking it and it's never enough, he turns it louder, so to speak by taking more. He doesn't feel as though he has anything else, and the addiction has already gotten to him, so he "Needs" it. ________________________ You're the only thing I've got I can't seem to get enough We collide for one embrace So ____________________ This may make you think he misses someone, but its the drug. He gives away everything else so that it's all he has, but its never fulfilling because of the addiction, so he can't get enough. I assume the "collide for one embrace" is him talking about taking it. ____________________ I need it I need it I need it now ____________ He needs the drug. The cycle continues. |

| Nine Inch Nails – The Hand That Feeds Lyrics | 12 years ago |

This could be wrong but i think this song delve into the negative aspects of religion. ------------------------------ You're keeping in step In the line Got your chin held high and you feel just fine Because you do What you're told But inside your heart it is black and it's hollow and it's cold ------------------------------------------------------ This verse deals with the contradiction of being free whilst following rules associated with religion. It says that by "Keeping in step" and "The line" one may at first feel happy until they realize it holds no true greater meaning. By saying "But inside your heart it is black and it's hollow and its cold" The song implies that religion is merely a way of people justifying their existence when they feel it is quite meaningless. ------------------------------------------- Just how deep do you believe? Will you bite the hand that feeds? Will you chew until it bleeds? Can you get up off your knees? Are you brave enough to see? Do you want to change it? ------------------------------------------- It's asking whether or not it is really worth it to have faith or even believe in something divine. Its asking if people are willing to change the rules and see exactly why it is flawed. If they are "Brave enough" to see. -------------------------------------------- What if this whole crusade's A charade And behind it all there's a price to be paid For the blood On which we dine Justified in the name of the holy and the divine ------------------------------- The song then goes on to ask whether or not religion is even accurate and points to the misdeeds of religions such as christianity which had in the past resulted in people having an excuse to justify acts of murder such as the Salem witch trials or crusades. The first line in this verse makes a reference to the crusades to prove my point. --------------------------------- So naive To keep holding on to what I want to believe I can see But I keep holding on and on and on and on ------------------------------------- The song adds wit. It throws in sarcasm and mockery at this point. The song talks from the perspective of someone who see's how flawed religion is (from the song's perspective) and in spite of that the person keeps holding on to what they believe, to live in blissful ignorance. -------------------------------------------- Will you bite the hand that feeds you? Will you stay down on your knees? --------------------------------------------- The song then asks to stop praying and worshiping a higher power that doesn't even exist (which is why it says that the person is on their knees instead of praying) To spite religion, or the hand that feeds. |

| Queens of the Stone Age – I Sat By The Ocean Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
It's a song about a man or woman in a relationship who knows they are being cheated on and they are thinking about ending the relationship. I sat by the ocean And drank a potion, baby to erase you ---------------------------- He/she is drinking alcohol or beer of some kind to forget about their partner. ------------------------------- Face down in the boulevard yet I couldn't face you ---------------------------------- He/she is down on their luck and are hurting but can't bring them self to end the relationship. ------------------------------------ There ain't no use in cryin' It doesn't change anything, so baby what good does it do? --------------------------------- Complaining won't fix the situation. ---------------------------------- Your friends they'll sympathize, maybe I don't need them to ----------------------------------- If the partner's friends knew they'd most likely think the partner is wrong, but that won't help him/her with it. --------------------------------- Imagine I'd be your one and only Instead I'm the lonely one -------------------------------------- He/she wanted to be the partner's"one and only" but instead they're "alone" in the sense that they feel as though their partner doesn't care about them, or is seing somebody else. -------------------------------------- You, me, and a lie -------------------------------------- The "lie" represents the fact the partner cheated on him/her. ---------------------------------------- Silence is closer We're passing ships in the night ---------------------------------------- He/she is eventually going to have to confess and it's becoming to much for him/her to hold in. ------------------------------------------- There's nowhere to run away ------------------------------------------- He/she can't run from the situation. They will have to deal with it. ------------------------------------------- Said, 'Boy if you want love, you'll have to go and find it with someone new' 'Do you know who you really are? Are you sure it's really you'? -------------------------------------------- He/she is confronted. Do they really want to stay in the relationship only for it to end badly? --------------------------------------------- Lies are a funny thing They slip through your fingertips because they never happened to you ---------------------------------------------- He/she never realized they were being cheated on until now. "You wouldn't understand unless it happened to you" ---------------------------------------------------------- Time wounds all the heals as we fade out of view ---------------------------------------------------------- Eventually as they stop the relationship, they will look back and wonder where it all went wrong. It will hurt to look back on those memories. --------------------------------------------------------- Into the light, left with nowhere to hide ------------------------------------------------------- He/she is trying to hide from this but it still isn't working. -------------------------------------------------------- Closer and closer We're crashing ships in the night ----------------------------------------------- It's getting harder to hide, and the relationship will have to end eventually. |

| Muse – Map of the Problematique Lyrics | 12 years ago |

This song could just as easily be related to a person or an object of obsession but i think the song goes a little deeper than that. Personally i feel that the song is telling a story about someone who has had effects with drugs or another kind of substance that is potentially life threatening. This person may have had their life be torn apart because of its usage. _____________ "Fear, and panic in the air I want to be free From desolation and despair" He's scared, he feels alone and afraid. He wants to find a way out however it is too late for him. This possibly is talking about the negative psychological effects.Paranoia is often a symptom with certain types of substances, such as LSD. Others provide a sense of isolation and fear (or despair). He wants to let go of his addiction. "And I feel like everything I saw Is being swept away When I refuse to let you go" He can't give up his addiction. He's possibly lost his old life with a possible family, maybe even friends or job due to his addiction. All of that is "Swept away" because he refuses to "Let you(Drugs) go". "I can't get it right Get it right Since I met you" Fairly straight forward. His life has fallen apart ever since he started his addiction. "Loneliness be over When will this loneliness be over" Again touching upon despair as a symptom. Depression can also result from usage, which is what this line may also be referring to. "Life will flash before my eyes So scattered almost I want to touch the other side" His final breath, his final moment. He reflects on his scattered life that he was never able to get together. There is nothing left for him, so he wants to "touch the other side", or give up on this life he has had. "And no one thinks they are to blame Why can't we see That when we bleed we bleed the same" "No one thinks they are to blame" implies that it is no one else's fault but his own. Because of that, everyone looks down on him as if he isn't human. He wants them to see that he needs help, but they won't as they don't see him as such"Why can't we see That when we bleed we bleed the same" This is an interesting song that can be interpreted in different ways. I like to think this isn't the only meaning for the song as it can be associated with greed, prejudice and even depression. |

| The Dandy Warhols – Nietzsche Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I see the song as being more of a metaphor. It could potentially be someones negative feelings towards someone who does something so unimpressive that received tons of recognition for it. God represents the respected figure, as people would view them the same as they would god. "Playing dead" is unspecific and non-literal. If a famous artist gets tons of money by painting down a red line that would count as "Playing dead" because the person singing the song would be able to do it. The person wants to see something really impressive, such as saving children from burning buildings. "Staying dead" means that, as no one really wants to truly die. | |
| Fractures – Twisted Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
"Am I supposed to feel something, Was I supposed to let you win, Why do these things keep happening, To me." Bad things keep happening to the person and they feel as though they've lost hope. It's probably happened several times before. The person is most likely depressed and doesn't feel as though anybody understands what they're going through"Was i supposed to let you in?". They "Don't feel anything" emotionally which usually is what depressed people feel. "I see these spirits hovering, They're forcing me, they're pressuring, The life I lived has now caved in, On me." The person see's people trying to make him feel better. "Spirits" Could refer to his sense of detachment. He see's people helping him as super natural and beyond what he can understand, being that they are happy and going about their lives. They're forcing him to try and feel better even though he doesn't believe he can be fixed. He doesn't feel as though there is anything to his life anymore. "And I'm twisted, I'm pushing you away," He's conflicted internally. He wants to feel better but can't relate to people anymore. He pushes people away because he doesn't think they will understand them. "And I'm lonely, And I'm listless, I'm keeping you at bay, And I'm lonely. (Don't want to be lonely)" Again, he feels alone and as though no one can help him. He wants someone to understand, someone to help him. He won't accept anyone's help because he doesn't feel as though they could understand even if they wanted to. "Somebody give me a reason, Can't somebody tell me why, I don't want to have to wait, I don't want to have to start again, And reset my mind." He doesn't want to have to wait for someone to find a cure. He contemplates suicide, asking for anyone to give a reason as to why he should keep his life. He questions why he feels this way, he feels as though if he does get a cure he'll just go back to feeling how he does at the moment. "I don't know why, but I'm sinking. Losing the light, I've lost the light." Things are getting worse and he's finding less reason to hold on. He no longer see's any good in the world or in himself "the light". This is potentially a suicide scenario where he has lost all hope and gives in. Overall the song is about someone dealing with their inner demons and not overcoming them. It's more or less about depression and how it can affect people, beyond that it tells a story and is a really powerful strong with a deep message. |

| The Dandy Warhols – Sleep Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
The instrumental in this song shows longing, someone who's tired and wanting to forget someone he/she has fallen apart from. The lyrics tell us that the person wants to get some sleep due to feeling tired, and if they could, they would. However it's always about her/him when he/she dreams. More than that, the song is about moving on. The person would be able to sleep, if only they could move on. |

| Moby – Porcelain Lyrics | 12 years ago |

Obviously there is no correct interpretation, considering everybody comes to their own. This is mine, however. I think this song is about someone who's maybe been abusive to someone else, the other person then leaves them and they realize how they've mistreated that person. That abusive person doesn't try to get back with the person they've abused, but merely attempts to say sorry, and show that they mean it. |

| Billy Talent – Viking Death March Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I agree with Morgia's interpretation. The song is clearly about the condition Society is in today, but there's even more evidence to support that. "We will show no mercy On Evoulution's mistake" We've evolved into consumers, and a conglomerate society that doesn't fully embrace our potential. There are plenty of great musicians who work in corer stores, plenty of great artists stuck as school teachers. It's saying we should change that with no mercy. "Change will have to wait If we can't decide on a fate" We don't know where our future is headed, and until we realize that, we cannot do anything to change it. "you preach about love And teach about faith But all your beliefs are still rooted in hate" Possibly apathy towards others. So many people go about saying that the way to create a better world is to care for others, however there are still plenty of people who hate their day job, boss, or even someone they don't like instead of trying to get to know them and possibly even grow to like that person. Or possible Hypocritites preaching love, despite possibly being racist or discriminating against others. |

| Seether – Eyes of the Devil Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I actually think the song is being sarcastic. I believe it is about someone who has lost faith in god and believes him to be just as evil as the devil. ------------------------------------------------------------------- It irks me when I get burned And I realize, I don't get hurt And always, it seems I've lost my way ------------------------------- This could be what brought the person to lose faith or go against god or his faith. The first 2 lines are about his previous experiences with confessions perhaps. He feels as though he's doing nothing wrong(And i realize i don't get hurt) yet he's shunned or "burned" for it, forcing him to believe what he's done is wrong. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- When I feel you, it's not enough And I need you to shun my touch I notice the season's ripe for change ----------------------------------------- This talks about how he could possibly believe that God isn't there for him when he needs help(When i need you), yet when he tries to something to show his appreciation, he's always told "It's not enough" no matter how hard he tries. He may also possibly believe himself to always be shunned by God (Shun my touch) because he's possibly labeled a sinner, despite attempting to atone for his sins. "And i notice" possibly believes he's using seasonal change as a metaphor saying things need to change. ------------------------------------ I'm weak I'm weak ------------- From his point of view, he's seen as insignificant and small compared to his almighty creator, despite trying to be the best person he can be. ---------------------------------------------------- So with every new lesson learned I could keep you before it turns And the knowledge that things won't be the same ---------------------------------------------------- "I could keep God, despite knowing he won't help me, or i could abandon him and make things change for me." He can pretend(From his point of view) To stay "Ignorant". --------------------------------------- Now I realize that you have won And there's nothing to be said or done And I notice the wind won't blow my way ----------------------------------------------------------- He feels like he's no match for what everyone else tells him, and that he's eternally dammed, or that there's nothing he can do to change the way things are for him. ------------------------------------- So run with the eyes of the devil And keep them in your dreams --------------------------- This is probably his perception that religion uses fear. "Remember all the wrong doings you have done, and run with them so that you may never change" ------------------------------------------------- If you succumb to the lies of the rebel You'll cleanse yourself of me ------------------------------------- This is probably the song being sarcastic again. "Cleanse yourself of me" from his perspective, probably means that if he listens to what he believes is the "Truth" that god is just as evil as the devil, he will finally be able to better himself. "Lies" refers to God probably telling him to remain ignorant. ------------------------------------------------------------- It kills me to watch this fade And I realize it's all charade ---------------------------------------- He can no longer follow what he believes with God, and believes that god being pure is a "Charade" ----------------------- And every mistake I make is the same I beseech you to let me drown -------------------------------------------- He's always told that he's doing the wrong thing, despite trying to do better. He feels like he should just give up. ----------------------------------------------- Will it please you to let me down ------------------------- "Will forcing me to follow you please you even though i know what you are?" ------------------------------------------ And no one can save me from the pain ---------------------------------------- He feels no one can save him from the sense of hopelessness. ------------------------------- So run with the eyes of the devil And keep them in your dreams If you succumb to the lies of the rebel You'll cleanse yourself of me [x3] (Same as earlier) ------------------------------------- Jesus, save me! (i'm weak) [x5] ----------------------- The song again being sarcastic. Saying only God can save him despite him feeling God is the one who has betrayed him. ----------------------------------------------------- Jesus, save me from me ----------------------------------- He gives up. He feels as though he can only remain ignorant. ------ Although there are plenty of theories as to what i could be about, i just found that one interesting. It is by no means my view on religion or God, however i thought that's what the song might be saying. Tell me if you think i'm right or wrong. |
