I think this is one of those songs that is a plea to John Lennon to write songs with him again. "It's their, it's round, it's to be found, by you, by me, it's all we ever wanted to be". What's he talking about? The Beatle magic! Paul Lennon and McCartney ever wanted to be was the Goffin and King of music in their time who when they were together they surpassed stupendously. That's my take. |

I think this is a message from Paul to John about how they should write together again. In an early Lennon song, "Isolation", Lennon sings "the world is just a little town". In this song, Paul sings here "can't you feel the town exploding". If you substitute "world" for "town" in " "With a Little Luck" it's like Paul is saying the world would "explode" if we resumed our songwriting together. Other clues in the lyrics are, "there is no end to what we can do together, etc. we can do it, just me and you". I happen to be one of those who thinks that this same message to John existing quite a few songs of the 70s. This song also is good musically in an of itself and there is more than a passing resemblance between this song and "My Life" by Billy Joel. Structurally they are almost identical although note by note you wouldn't see it. Obviously Joel was influenced by McCartney there. |

I think that John was right and it was written about him. Specifically about their songwriting partnership having dissolved and John not valuing what they had. Paul was a master at masking what he was writing about so as usual he failed his thoughts within what looked to be a typical boy girl breakup thing. |
